Tach, spedo and shift indicator stop working, trans wont shift outof third gear
SOURCE: I have a 1995 GMC Jimmy with auto trans., it wont
Your going to have to get the Jimmy scaned before youhurt the transmission, It sounds like it's on a Limp mode which can range from a tune up to a bad ground. Good luck.
Testimonial: "Thanks for the info. I ended up sell the jimmy and passed on the info to the buyer they also found it helpful."

I had the same problem. Non funtioning Tach and Speedometer, no power, unable to shift gears, gear indicator light out... I spent the past two hours tracing most wires and checking connectors, looking for faults, testing switches and actuators, I finally noticed that the problem was tied closely with the ignition switch. There is a fault in the switch between position 1 and 2, "Off" and "Run". A search on the web brought up information on the following site that VERIFIES this problem:

I will contact the GMC dealer tomorrow and ask THEM to describe the bad switch problem and also see about purchasing parts. WHen I call this morning to describe the problem, they claimed to know nothing of the problem, BUT, were more than happy to offer diagnostic services for $120. This truck is slightly more complicated than a lawn mower, I can check it myself.

you need to scan this truck if you have a vss input to the computer then you have a bad trans or a bad vss sensor if no input you should also check the trans range sensor with the scan tool

It could be a couple of differant things its a 95 so it would have some ware in the shift mechanisum witch you look at the interlock switch. That is connected to the transmission through the shift cable on the drivers side of the transmission and moves every time you move the coloum shift lever. Or it could have something to do with the vehicle speed sensor mounted on the tail stock of the tranamission witch produces a referance voltage of about 5 volts AC for the VCM . Or it could just be a bad connection in that cirrcuit for depending if you have a digital speedometer and tach. I would check the interlock switch first the shifter is binding and its a ware part . Good luck
