2001 ford explorer, dies after stopping, rpm's drop & stalls also often happens after turning, this car now dies at every stop light. As long as i am driving it drives but if i stop or have to slow down to turn, it will die. I changed the idle air control sensor but that wasn't it. Got any suggestions?

Check for vacuum leaks.

Have someone feather the gas pedal while you listen carefully to the engine. If the leak is bad enough you'll probable hear it.
More than likely, it's either a vacuum hose or the o-rings under the intake manifold.

Hope this helps!

Check all of your vacume lines. If it isn't a vacume line it is most likely the O2 sensor.

SOURCE: My 2002 Ford Taurus will shutter and die when

the idle air control valve is responsible for engine idle.
this is a common failure on ford's. but I don't think yours is bad because it does idle high befor it dies.
you stated you had codes p0171 and p0174 these are lean codes for bank one and two, you said you found a vacuum leak and repaired it, the vacuum leak was mostly likely the cause of the lean codes, however the pcm has calibrated the fueling stategy for this lean mixture, what you need to do is erase the KAM "keep alive memory" this is done by unhooking the negative battery cable for 60 seconds, this is the only way to erase the KAM the $6000.00 machine I use wont even do it.

once the KAM is clean the computer will go into a relearn state and all operating values will be adjusted for the vehicles current condition, during this relearn session the vehicle may have some driveability issues (low or high idle, stalling, poor fuel economy) the relearn should complete within 10 minutes of idling and then 10 minutes of driving.

good luck and keep me updated

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer XLT, stopped at a lite and it died but started right up and hasn't done it again. I havent had a tune up done is awhile. Could this be the problem

Could be a TPMS sensor or a MAP sensor. Check the fuel pressure to why u are at it. Cleanning the throttle body will be helpful also.If its been awhile i would check plug gap. To wide of a gap it wont fire like it should. A fuel filter is a plus also. Might be in the tank?

The idle is set too low, the alternator is not charging enough, poor battery connection, filthy throttle body, dirty air filter are some of the most common causes of stalling at lower rpms.
