Overdrive light I'm suppose to buy this 2002 ford explorer today and overdrive light flashes what does that mean.

The overdrive light flashes when the transmission has a fault/ problem and stores a code in the computer. Unless you are a professional mechanic I would seek one to diagnose your concern.

The flashing light means there is a system problem with the automatic transmission. You will probably notice a lack of power when starting from a stop with this lamp flashing. The dealer or local mechanic should be able to scan for a fault code.

When the OD light flashes in this truck it means a malfunction has occurred in the transmission, it usually will be due to excessive slippage of the transmission based on the signal of the input and output shaft speed sensors. Here is what you need to do is have the Transmission Control Module tested for the fault code or codes that was stored when the light starting flashing, it is doubtful the valve body is the problem based on my 30 years as a Ford dealer technician.

Change the overdrive switch,

Have a good look at your brakes, oil system and the gear oil guage.

There's a mechanical fault.

this usually maens your vehicle speed sensor is bad. @ 100 repair.

this could mean there is a problem with the transmission,but most times when OD light is flashing it is because the wiring to the OD switch is broken.
is the OD switch on the end of the gear shift lever ?
or does your vehicle have the shifter on console between seats ?
