My 1998 Dodge Ram will not start - the key turns over but it won't fire - if you shoot it with ether it will temporarily fire but then will die. I put a new fuel pump on it and it still won't start - the fuel pump does not seem to be priming either, so I don't think there is power there. Also - the codes say there is something wrong with the ASD relay. Thanks.
I JUST had this problem about 2 days ago. I used my spark plug tester on all plugs and coil, it was fine. Then, I dumped a little bit of fuel and starting fluid into the throttle body. It would start but only run for a max of 10 seconds. Then I finally checked the ASD relay. Swapped it with another working relay (A/C) and it fired right up. So, I went to NAPA and picked one up for $3.49.....and this whole time I wanted to replace fuel pump and filter....ick.
Check fuel pump relay can you hear the put with the key all the way forward with out staring it if you can change fuel filter

1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Wont start but it will crank but wont turn over. It died on the highway and can't get it to turn over now. HELP
Try swaping the asd relay with the trailer package relay, sounds like you have a bad relay. The relays are the same, they are located under the hood on the driverside innerfender in the fuse box, look at the lid to which is which
do you mean when you shoot it with starting fluid.
here is some information i found i don't know if it will help you situation.
The following problems are commonly found on Chrysler ignition systems, but there are ways to solve them:
ASp Relay. When you perform a diagnosis for a no-start condition on
a Chrysler vehicle, remember that the ASD Relay will not activate
without a crank signal. Many techs waste time trying to figure out why
there's no power at the injectors, coils and other components without
manually activating the relay. The relay can be activated using a scan
tool and Chrysler's Actuator Test Mode (ATM). In fact, a scan tool also
can be used to verify the system's ability to produce spark.
Truck wont start. When it does start it seems starved of gas, spits and sputters and will die pretty quick if not immediately.
