The short wire that goes from battery to fuse control panel box is getting very hot. There is some visible melting on the box itself, but no visible melting or damage on wiring inside. The car had lost all power, but after inspecting this the car will start just fine now. Can anyone tell me what may be causing this wire to heat up?

Does the A/C compressor run or does it blow the A/C fuse in the under hood fuse box?? If it's blowing the fuse you might have a bad A/C diode located in the underhood fuse block. It looks like a black fuse with a diagram on top of it.Pull it out & replace it & see if the problem is gone. These L series are notorius for having compressor problems, locking up,clutch coils going open.hope this helps

Have you done any component testing? U1000 is a data issue, cant read pulses per minute. This is usually due to a defective crank sensor but you should do component testing first so you don't replace parts on random. Other reasons for this failure can be faulty ignition switch cam positioning sensor, Blown fuse, bad ground, or ECM.

The speaker should be removed from the trunk. You shouldn't have to remove it from the back seat. There is probably just a couple of clips or screws that hold them in

These are the most common causes for bad mileage.
Tire pressure is a
huge factor (Tire should be set at the factory recommendation or 1-2
psi above, but never below - Tire should also be a Low Rolling
Resistance Tire)
Oil level (you said it's OK, so I assume it's not above the full mark)
Running extra accessories (A/C, etc)
Dirty Air Filter
bad Ignition timing
engine running hotter than normal
fuel injectors may be stuck partially open
bad fuel pressure regulator
faulty emission control device (this usually triggers a check engine light)
