You most likely hit a curb, the pan is cast aluminum and will break like glass if you hit a curb, the pan can be changed without removing the engine, it is very time consuming, but it can be done.

If it is the valve seals,you can replace the head,but it would be cheaper to replace the seals,If you pull the head,you can do a leak down test on the pistons to check the rings as well.

On the trans you have a shifting module that might need replace just make sure that the shifting lever is aline with the mark on the shifting module.(Drivers side)
As far as the plug goes you can so thread lock tight to keep it in.

They were too deep when they tapped the hole. There is a system made to retap the plug hole as this is a comment problem on these engines.if done properly with proper tool there should not be a problem. Sounds like at a minimum you need to pull the head. Did you take it to a Ford shop? If you did ford might fix it as I said. Common problem!
