Try it in neutral and see if that works. Could be a bad PRNDL switch on the transmission. Otherwise I would check the ignition switch itself. Some folks like to have a hundred keys on their keychain that over time will cause ignition switch failures due to the extra weight.

SOURCE: chevy tahoe won't turnover, power

Next time it won't start turn headlights on and see if they dim when you turn key to start, if they dim its most likely starter, if they don't dim possible starter switch, Have you tried to start it in neutral position? Try that, if it starts in neutral than its park neutral switch, if not could be starter switch, Just make sure you chk. all fuses and any relays associated with ignition first.

SOURCE: engine wont crank

im looking at that circuit , on the start relay on your radiator support , red is always hot via fusible link , purple to solenoid as you say , orange/black wire should be hot in run or start mode , if it is not the fuse for that wire is PCM/ABS 10 amp located fuse block in driver door jam , it does go through the nuetral saftey switch , the yellow wire going to the PCM must ground that relay to activate start mode . last note there is a PCM/CRANK fuse in the driver door jam also , 10 amp , if all this is good i would like to hear more . 1 more note about the nuetral saftey switch is the pink wire going in and the orange/black wire coming out should have continuity in park and nuetral ....let us know thanks

SOURCE: 2004 suburban starter motor clicking

It could be many things, of course the most common is the battery, and you say that is good. Even when you tryed boosting, i assume?
If it's not the battery, it might not be all the way in park. I have even heard of people rocking the vehicle back and forth in park to make it go all the way in to park, and start.
Next thing it could be is broken , loose or disconnected wires in the starting circuit. Inspect all wires at the battery , starter solenoid, and ignition switch.
Still nothing. Faulty starter solenoid.
Faulty starter.
Ignition switch.
Starter motor pinion jammed in your ring gear.
Let me know how you make out. Good luck.

SOURCE: no power chevy express 1500 van wont start

Hi there, if you turn on the lights do you have head lights? if yes turn the key to start with headlights on does the lights dim? Yes? if yes that means your key is operating the starter if not it means the starter is not receiving a signal from the key to starter, need to know what it does before I go on. If no lights then the battery is dead or you have a corroded battery cable. Let me know for more information.

2000 chev wont start at key

From the ignition switch there is a yellow wire that is for the starter. probe it when trying to start. If you have no voltage replace the switch. Also, I believe there is a fusible link in the wire by the starter. It will be a different color than purple. Probe on the back side of it to see if there is voltage at start up. If so, replace with the smae color link.

1989 f250 wont start dead silence when i turn key on replaced ignition switch, starter & solenoid, truck will start if i jump points on solenoid

Two parts to this circuit, the low current: power supply to the ignition switch which then passes to the small wire on the solenoid when you turn the key to the start position, at this point there should be an audible "click" from the solenoid. Don't forget the solenoid needs an earth to operate, so check the earth path too, usually through its attachment point(s) Check that the ignition switch has power going to it. Check that the power is transferred to the start wire when the key is turned. Check the power is arriving at the solenoid, small wire. Check the solenoid has a good earth. Does the solenoid "click" when you try to start? Yes to all this? Then the low current side is good. The high current side: a permanent live (hot) to one side of the solenoid. When the key is turned to the start position and so long as the solenoid "clicks" then the power to the permanently live terminal is transferred to the other high current terminal. If it is not, then the terminals inside the solenoid are burned/dirty/high resistance. You might be able to dismantle, else change the solenoid. If the power does transfer, but the starter motor does not turn, then suspect the starter motor itself. Check there is a good earth for the starter motor, the heavy duty cable to the engine is in good condition, terminals clean and tight etc. If all good, then the starter motor is most likely U/S.

2004 chevy tahoe won't turnover or start by being jumped

The ignition start circuit is the path from the ignition key in cranking mode to the solenoid on the starter. The path travels through a starter relay and a neutral safety switch before it reaches the starter.
This must be the circuit not working on your car.Make sure battery and starter connections are tight.Check for power at the starter solenoid terminal with a testlight when someone turns key to crank. If you have power there, they sold you a defective starter. If you have no power there then it could be the relay or the neutral safety switch.

Van sometimes will not turnover when you turn the key, just makes a clicking sound. You can try it a couple of times and it will start fine. Had battery checked and it's ok. Maybe starter is going out?

This is typical of a starter going bad. It is caused by the main start relay going bad. The contacts are burned and have lots of carbon buildup on them.

Van won't turnover

does this van have one of those starter keys below the steering wheel under the dash?
if so the plug is out or not all the way in.

other wise you will need to jump start test the starter manualy down on the starter itself.

there is one small gauge wire going to the starter and and large gauge wire coming from the battery .unplug the small one and put a test light on the wire and turn the key to test for power.then test at the starter turn key off .

now cross the little side to the big side on the starter .there will be a spark but this should cause the starter to engage if its working ok.

using a few of these tests should fix this one ok.
if you dont turn the key off when testing the starter the only thing that will happen is the engine may start running on you.
make sure the brake is on and in park.

hope this helps out.
keep me posted

thank you

2002 Chrysler Sebring Convert wont turnover

If you're not hearing a click from the starter check for a starter relay. May be burned out! DO you hear the fuel pump kick in when you turn the key on? If not something might have triggered your security system and locked you out!

98 GMC Safari has power but won't start

Have you checked battery voltage? (12v or better)
Check voltage at main starter cable (should be almost same reading, but not substantially lower (11.8 ok) Then check power to small terminal on starter...with key turned to "start" it should have 12v. If you have these readings and block ground is clean and secure, it's likely that starter has failed. If no power to small wire, either ignition switch or a relay is bad.(on stick vehicles add clutch switch) You can jump starter across large & small terminals and this will generally get it started. Do this with key "on" and vehicle in park (neutral on stick shift with brake on)
