the btsi solenoid is probably went out of it, you can remove the shifter boot and pop the linkage off of it and get it to shift had to do this to mine before
Linkage adjustment. As for the button you will have to take shifter apart to unlock it. Car won't start as the switch is not being engaged. Some start up in neutral, don't know if yours does this.
Hi there: The majority of vehicles have a problem with a broken piece inside the shifter assembly. Check with your dealer about some recall or TSB there, if your VIN is included in this recall Mitsubishi will pay for the repair. If by chance yours is not included, then replacing the shifter assembly will fix this for you.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
I had this issue in the past. All I did was to replace the brake switch. This part is located behind the brake pedal. Btw, if you this run into this issue again in the future, you can always push this switch with your finger and it's located on top of your steering wheel enclosure, this will disengage the shifter.there is a small rectangle shape cover that you need to remove first.
There is a small plasic acess cover (1/2" x1/2") on the base of the shifter. Pry it open and press the button. You should immediately be able to shift.
The button is needed because the sensor on your brake pedal is broken (won't activate your brake lights either). Use the button on your shifter to get your car home or to the mechanic so you can get the brake switch fixed. Remember whern you drive you have no brake lights.
