Daewoo won't shift out of park and no brake lights. I replaced the brake swiitch under the brake pedal but still not working. What is my next culprit? I heard something about a selenoid under the console.
Sounds like the park/brake shift interlock switch is bad.
Or
"An actuator solenoid and module assembly, located on the lower portion
of the steering column, locks the shifter in Park whenever it receives
a signal that the ignition switch is in the ON position. When the
module receives a signal from the Brake On-Off (BOO) switch that
indicates the brake pedal is depressed, it unlocks the shifter so that
it can be shifted out of Park."
It says the most common failures in the system are the fuse and the BOO
switch, and if they are fine, special tools are needed to diagnose.
To disable the system: Apply the parking brake, turn the ignition key
to LOCK, then remove the key. Insert the key and turn it to OFF. Press
the brake pedal. Shift to neutral, start the vehicle and select the
desired gear.
Do the brake light work? No brake lights and it won't shift out of park. Check your fuses and check for loose wires. Check your brake light switch. If that has failed, you won't be able to get out of park. The other one if the shift lock solenoid which is in the shifter assembly. The brake shift interlock switch prevents the car being shifted from park unless the brake pedal is depressed. Try to apply power/ground to the proper wires & see if it will activate.. If it does, then the problem is between the brake light switch & that solenoid. Could be the wires or the switch.Make sure the shifter cable is still held down in place at the shifter assembly & under the hood. It is the interlock switch that you hear/feel clicking. It is for the prior generation but may still apply.
Good Luck and hopefully you soon will be on the road again...;-)
