After several months of having my van my interior lights decided to stay off! I can manually turn them on, but when I turn off the engine and open the door, the lights do not come on. It doesn't matter which mode I have the light in (there are 3 different spots to place the piece in). If I manually put on the interior lights and then shut my doors, the light will stay on until I manually turn them off. Not a big deal BUT if I have my hands full and then with 2 small children and it's dark, it is a pain having to juggle everything and turn the light on to have to turn it off when the van should be doing it, know what I mean?
The lights are controlled by a electronic module (computer ) It is possible you have a bad interior lamp relay .
Lamps, Courtesy
The generic electronic module integrates control of all interior lights, electrical warning lamp controls and courtesy lamps by controlling interior lamp relay (13A777) . Power supply to interior lamp relay is controlled by "battery saver" function.
The battery saver relay supplies power to the interior lamp control relay. The generic electronic module controls the interior lamp control relay which supplies power to the courtesy lamps.
The generic electronic module activates the interior lamp relay when a signal is received from the driver, passenger, liftgate or sliding door ajar switches.
After activation, the generic electronic module deactivates the relay when any of the three following conditions occurs:
If any door remains open and the ignition switch remains OFF for 20 minutes, the battery saver relay will turn off and remove power from the interior lamp control relay. The location is in the I/P fuse box .
Is it an old van? Can you see on the door frame a switch does it come out when the door is opened (push in and out a few times). 3 position switch on always / off always and door switch?

I would suggest you call around to some auto salvage yards. Tell them specifically what you need,
and you might luck out.

im guessing your door ajar light is lit, if not maybe its burnt out or if bought used, disconnected by previous owner, cause this can be a problem that occurs, disappears and reoccurs. its most likely the door ajar switch which are are inside the door by the latch rather than in the door jams like the older models. 1st thing is to figure out which door it is and im sure youve shut and reshut the doors repeatedly to eliminate that as the cause. put the key in the ignition, do not start and open drivers door, if it chimes its good, now start the vehicle and one by one open the other 3 passenger doors one by one, ea door should create a single chime, if not thats the door that needs the door ajar switch replaced. 20 dollar part, tight work space. this happened with my 2001 styleside f-150 supercrew lariat and i pulled the #1 relay to save the battery. truck ran fine just no interior lights till i could get around to fixing it. in the meantime my headlight switch burnt out $160 part. not confirmed yet but one souce reported running w/out that relay in could cause a multitude of problems. so beware if youre running iiit w that relay pulled. im still checking into that as a cause or coincidence

to repair this problem you must remove floor lights from seats and check the circuit for either a short or a stuck switch use a multi tester this can get to be irritating as the short may be not directly behind switch could be along wiring that runs through car my suggestion if your not electrically proficient is take it to an electromechanic shop or simply unplug the light from socket to avoid draining the battery.

the wire on the door latch make sure they are plugged in or unplug it and the light should go out if it does not then it's not that door

If I am not mistaken, the plunger is located in the door with the latch. Most of the time you can just pull the door panel off and adjust the switch. After opening and closing the door, they get knocked out of adjustment. I sincerely hope that this helped you. Take care and best wishes.

Nope! I thought of that also and tried it with each door, even the back. Any suggestions would be great!
do they come on if you open any door besides the drivers?
