I would suggest you check oil levels etc. Generally these cars suffer from the air mass meter / air sensor problems aswell as coil problems too. Did you ever get a solution to the problem?

SOURCE: Hi, I bought used Audi

I would check to see if the catalyic converter is clogged. Drop the tail pipe at the manifold. Start and drive it for a block you will be able to tell real quick. It should run smooth and have good power. It will just be noisy. Or you could have coil problems.

SOURCE: fuel gauge reads E when first started, jumps to F after awhile

I agree with philipk and I might consider a different shop since separating the level sender from the gauge isn't rocket science and only requires a basic meter to check the integrity of the sender. If it checks bad, it will still cost a bit of labor (the sender isn't expensive; <$50 US) but since it is located inside the gas tank and is rarely removable without dropping the whole gas tank, expect some labor costs. The cost of replacing the instrument cluster would be far greater though if the sender checks out OK.

Testimonial: "thanks for your help. nice to go into the shop armed with some info! "

What number is the odometer fuse for the 2007 Chevy Uplander

There is no fuse for just the odometer, has main fuses for the whole instrument cluster . Odometer not working? instrument cluster problem. Have it checked by a professional repair shop.

Odometers
Each instrument panel cluster (IPC) is equipped with a season odometer and 2 trip odometers. The IPC uses the odometer rolling count message from the powertrain control module (PCM). The rolling count value is determined by counting the speed pulses from the vehicle speed signal (VSS). The IPC uses the rolling count data from the PCM and a software program to determine vehicle mileage. The odometers can be displayed in miles or kilometers. The units displayed is switched between English and metric by pressing the menu button on the driver information center (DIC) until the units mode is displayed. Pressing the set/reset button will select between English or Metric. . When the set/reset button is pressed to show the odometer in metric, km and the number will be displayed. When the odometer is in English, MI and the number will be displayed.

Season Odometer
The season odometer displays the total accumulated miles or kilometers of the vehicle. This value is permanently stored in the IPC. If an odometer malfunction occurs or if the IPC must be replaced, an authorized Delco service center must be contacted to program proper vehicle specifics, including mileage, for the IPC. The season odometer is capable of displaying 999,999 kilometers or 999,999 miles depending on units selected. Leading zeros are not displayed. The display will not roll-over to 000,000 if the maximum displayed miles or kilometers are reached. If the display limit is exceeded, the maximum value (999,999) is displayed. If the mileage is above 621,503 miles and metric units are selected the odometer shall display 999,999 km.

Circuit/System Testing
Ignition OFF, raise the vehicles drive wheels.
Engine ON, transmission in drive, verify the scan tool Vehicle Speed Sensor parameter matches the speedometer display.
? If the Vehicle Speed Sensor parameter does not match the speedometer display, replace the IPC.
Verify that the odometer is operating properly.
? If the odometer is not operating properly, replace the IPC.

My speedometer on my 2005 Buick rendezvous starts off on zero and then shoots up to 110 when I am at a complete stop. I have changed the speed sensor module and checked the fuses. What else could it b

What module did you replace ? Was the vehicle transmission shifting OK ? The gauge is controlled by a stepper motor inside the instrument cluster , GM had bad stepper motors 03 to 06 .That is probably your problem .

Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed as determined by the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM). The ECM/PCM converts the data from the vehicle speed sensor to a 4,000 pulses/mile signal. The IPC uses the vehicle speed signal circuit (4,000 pulses/mile), class 2 message from the ECM/PCM in order to calculate the vehicle speed. If the IPC detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed signal circuit from the ECM/PCM, the IPC uses the class 2 message from the EBCM, indicating the vehicle speed as a backup. If the speedometer reaches (108 mph) the fuel will shut-off, and it will turn back ON when the speedometer is at (106 mph). The speedometer displays either miles or kilometers as requested by the activation of the english/metric button on the driver information center (DIC). The associated indicator (km/h or mph) illuminates.

On a2000buick century odometer not working

You would need to take it to the dealer or someother qualified repair shop that has the diagnostic tool to check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes in the instrument cluster .
DTC B0570 Season Odometer Malfunction

The instrument cluster receives a vehicle speed input from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) over the Class 2 line. This signal is used in order to drive the speedometer and the odometer of the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster will compare the VSS data with a 16-point look-up table in order to determine needle deflection. A smooth filter is used in order to secure a continuous response. The season odometer displays the total accumulated kilometers (miles) of the vehicle. This value is permanently stored in the Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) of the instrument cluster. The trip odometer displays the accumulated kilometers (miles) to the tenths of a kilometer (mile) since the last reset. This value is stored in Keep Alive Memory (KAM) of the instrument cluster.

Test Description
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
Always perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check before attempting to diagnose this DTC.
This diagnostic procedure requires using a scan tool.
This repair procedure requires instrument cluster replacement.

Odometer not working on 2006 ford e250 van. what is the fix

It's hard to say what's wrong without hooking up a factory san tool !
The instrument cluster is a configurable, hybrid electronic cluster (HEC) that contains a microprocessor, gauges, indicator lamps, and internal circuitry. The instrument cluster is non-repairable, with the exception of the instrument cluster lens, the warning bulbs, and the transmission range selector. The instrument cluster uses hardwired circuitry, the controller area network (CAN), and universal asynchronous receiver transmitter (UART)-based protocol (UBP) communication networks. Communication using the CAN uses data transmitted and received between the instrument cluster, the trailer brake control (TBC) electronic control unit, the powertrain control module (PCM), and the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module. Communication using the UBP network uses data transmitted and received by the instrument cluster, the vehicle security module, and the electronic automatic temperature control (EATC). For additional information regarding the communication network, refer to Section 418-00 .
It is very important to understand:
  • where the input originates.
  • all the information necessary in order for a feature to operate.
  • which module(s) receive(s) the input or command message.
  • whether the module which received the input controls the output of the feature, or whether it outputs a message over the CAN or UBP network to another module.
  • which module controls the output of the feature.
The instrument cluster carries out a display prove-out to verify that the warning/indicator lamps and monitored systems are operating correctly. The safety belt warning indicator proves-out for 65-seconds or until the safety belt is fastened. The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), and the wait to start indicator (diesel engines) illuminate continuously until the engine is started and operating normally. When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position with the engine off, the following indicators illuminate for 3 seconds:
Odometer The odometer and trip odometer are viewed through the message center in the integrated circuit display on message center clusters or in the integrated circuit display on base clusters. The odometer is tamper-resistant and accumulates and registers up to one million kilometers in metric mode or one million miles in English mode, based upon rolling count data sent from the PCM over the communication network. The trip odometer is resettable and accumulates and registers up to 9,999 kilometers or 9,999 miles.
Does the speedometer work ?

I bought a used 2003 A4 Convertible Audi 3.0 Feels it burns more gas than expected. Is there anything I can check or do to reduce that. Thanks Sean

to see what you get for mileage, take it to a gas station and fill it till the pump stops and reset your trip meter. Drive it around like you normally would to work or whatever till the tank is almost empty and go fill it up again till the pump stops. Its best to go to the same pump you used before. Once it is full look to see how many gallons or liters you put in(This is how many you used since the last time you filled up). Take the number of miles/kilometers from your trip meter(the number of miles/kilometers you drove since you last filled up) and divide it by the gallons/liters you used and you will get your miles/kilometers per gallon/liter. Compare this with the rating your vehicle is suppose to get. But remember it can very depending on how you drive.
Miles/kilometers divided by gallons/liters

I brought a 2006 Chevy Impala to Canada and need km, not miles.

Depending on the "package level" you should have a group of buttons near the edge of the speedo cluster. One will have a "check" mark on it. It is this bank of switches that control how the cluster "reads". If I had the VIN number, I could be more precise as to the how and where.
