My left brake light went out a few days ago on my 1999 Land Rover Discovery so i took the whole leftside light out to replace the bulb and the plastic part that you put the bulb into had melted and i had to pry it off. So i got a new plastic thing that the bulb goes into (sorry dont remember what its called) and a new bulb and it still didnt work so i got a whole new light. Finally i got the light to work. but then the next night i turned on my car and the consoul light and dash lights didnt work and my left brake light was out again and my right rear light was out too. im not sure what to do i looked at the fuses and they are good... any have this problem or something similar and know what to do??!!!

Check the circuit board that the bulb plugs into and make sure it is not burned or that the contacts are not damaged.

If your brake lights don't work Its because you blew the fuse which Is located In the main fuse panel under steering wheel. Without break lights your rover will fire up nice but wont shift out of park until you replace the fuse. If your ABS Is acting up It Is also an easy fix. Disconnect the ABS from each wheel. You still got all wheel disc breaks that work great but no ABS. Your other option is thousands of $$. If your breaks are weak check your master cylinder and make sure you got enough fluid and that you are not loosing the fluid. If you notice you are leaking brake fluid because you have to keep filling it up but cannot find a leak anywhere. I bet I know where It is. Check your rear break lines and make sure one of them didn't get caught in your rear springs and pinched ever so slightly when you were doing dounuts In the snow.
Good luck,

If you have the coil spring suspension, then your spring for that corner has really sagged[doubtful] I suspect you actually have the rear air suspension ,and the air spring for the Right/Rear has lost air, allowing the rear end to lower down greatly. Usually, you need a new air spring when one develops a leak. You may or may not be able to see the leak with a spray solution of soapy water after the spring is removed for inspection. Sometimes you have to apply about 20psi of air pressure into the spring to inflate it a bit, then put the spring under water in a big enough tank/tub of water to catch the leak that way.

Had the same problem with my 03 Disco. Went through the usual, checking the fuses, etc. I went ahead and replaced my break light switch on the brake pedal. $15.00 fix, or I thought so; still had the problem! Took it in for repairs and found out it was fuses after all... To get the parking lock to disengage you need to pull of the housing, which is tough and then press in the locking pin at the base of the shift lever to shift out of park. you can do it with the engine running and it will drive just fine until you put it into park again. Check your brake lights if there is a problem. Could be a sign of the brake switch failure. In my case the lights were out, but a cheap trailer rental did the damage. The short in the trailer blew some fuses and it was a problem that cost me $60.00 at the repair shop....
