On my 1999 Subaru Outback, the horn beeps after I lock using the keyless remote. The problem is intermittent - hard to tell when it is going to happen. It gives two short beeps (Beep......Beep) then

it is problem with your lock units wiring or locking relay in lock circuit.

please go to the professionals.before that you can check the fuse board for one blown fuse..good luck.

If you are talking about the Key FOB, most Autozone, Advance, and Oreilys have a remote tester and batteries for the FOB.

A lot depends on exactly what is happening here. Are we talking about an aftermarket alarm system? If so, I personally would recommend removing the entire system - they are usually more trouble than they are worth! (Just my personal opinion based on 36 years of auto repair experience)

NOTE: The information below applies ONLY to problems with the FACTORY security system.

There is a possibility that the horns going off are not being caused by the alarm system at all. Some GM airbag modules/steering wheel switches have been known to short out intermittently and cause the horns to sound for no apparent reason. If the horn is staying on solid (BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP) then it is most likely NOT the alarm system. If it is beeping on and off at regular intervals (BEEP.....BEEP......BEEP...) and the headlamps are flashing, then the security system is probably at fault.

Low battery voltage or a shorted cell in a battery can "trick" your alarm system into "thinking" that someone is trying to steal your car. A THOROUGH battery and charging system check should be performed to find out if this could be the cause.

Also, your factory alarm is a PassKeyII system. This means that if there is a malfunction in the system, there is most likely one or more fault codes stored in the Body Control Module (BCM) that can lead you to the cause of the problem so you can get it fixed.

Please note that MOST generic code readers CANNOT access these type of codes.

Another way to work around this is to "disarm" the system. To do this, unlock the door using the key. Press the "unlock" button on the door. Then press the "unlock" button on the key fob (keyless remote). The system will disarm. When you leave your car, use the KEY, not the remote to lock the car. (If you use the remote, the system will be armed again.)

The aftermarket remote starter probably reset. Do you have the instruction manual for it? You should be able to run it through the initial 'start up' options and set the horn to beep for you.

If you have your owner's manual, there is a section that will tell you the exact sequence to press to enable/disable the horn bonk. It has three settings, chirp, honk, and off. The chirp is a really quick chirp of the horn. Honk is a longer honk. Off seems to be what you've set.

Turn key on, jumper pins 4 an8 at data link connector hold lock and unlock buttons on fob simutainusly listen for horn beeps.

Get a lock cylinder from a dealer and have it re-keyed to your key!
