Check for power at the switch wire when someone turns the key to start. I would say there is a break in the circuit of the thin wire between the starter & the ignition switch

SOURCE: Turn key, nothing happens

It could be the park/neutral switch, next time it doesn't start try wiggling the shifter in park while turning the key, or shift to neutral and see if that will work. if that doesn't change the problem I would replace the ignition switch.

SOURCE: car won't start!!! & ABS Light on

Sounds like carbon build up on the contacts inside the electrical ignition switch which is not the key cylinder. Its located on the lower steering coluum if coluum shift or if you have a floor shift it will be inside the console

Motor don't turn nothing dash lights and head lights 1985toyota pu

Do the gauges and warning lights work with key on? If not, check fusible links, AM1 for ignition key power. If the gauges/warning lights work, the key switch has power, so you can follow it to the starter solenoid. The start wire out of the ignition switch is a black/white wire, this is the hot wire to the solenoid, and only has power when key is held in start. With automatics, there is only one switch-a neutral start switch- between the ignition switch and the solenoid on the starter .

With a manual transmission, the black-white start wire goes to both a starter relay and a clutch start switch (on the clutch pedal), those two work together to send the power on to the starter solenoid. So, no crank, good battery, power to key, follow the black/white wire, the start relay and the clutch switch, to the starter solenoid- a hot wire there turns the starter motor on.

When i go to start my 2004 Alero all the gauge lights come on but it won't start. The starter is still good. What could the problem be? Someone suggested that it was the neutral safety switch.

look for security light when you turn on key if it lights and doesn't go off leave key on for ten minutes then turn key off and then try to start

2004 Dodge Caravan with 3.3 ltr eng. Won't start,

This sounds like a classic bad connection either at the battery or engine ground. Check and recheck all your connections and be sure they are clean and tight.

I have a 2004 olds alero that i purchased for my son. This has happened twice now where he goes to start it and nothing happens. Turns the key and dead silence and it doesn't crank over. The battery has...

I would suspect the ignition switch. Luckily, it's mounted on the instrument panel and relatively easy to access.
Another angle to consider is that a security system is disabling ignition. If the lock symbol in the instrument cluster is illuminated, it could be a problem with the factory system. You could have an aftermarket system too. Check that the key fobs are say GM on the back.

Reset change engine oil light

Information taken from: http://www.idavette.net/tech/oilreset.htm

[quote]
The "Change Oil" indicator is reset by using a sequence of Driver Information Center (DIC) key presses as follows:

1. Turn ignition "ON", but do not start engine. (ALDL pin "G" should NOT be grounded.)
2. Press the "ENG/MET" button and release, then, within 5 seconds, press it again.
3. Within 5 seconds of Step 2, press and hold the "GAUGES" button. While the button is held, the "Change Oil" indicator will flash.
4. Continue holding the "GAUGES" button until the "Change Oil" indicator stops flashing and goes out, indicating successful completion of the reset cycle. This should take about 10 seconds.
If it does not successfully reset, turn ignition "OFF" and repeat the procedure from Step 1.
