Some models have to be retaught how to idle once the battery dies, so you need to start the truck and feather the gas peddle to keep it running and do this for a few minutes, the computer has to relearn how to idle the engine.

It could be the mass air flow sensor. Its mounted to the side of the air cleaner. Just unplug the electrical connection to bypass the unit. If this is the problem the vehicle should run smoothly.

SOURCE: car wont stay running unless foot is on the gas

Withoutknowing if the check engine light is on it could be a variety of things including but not limited to the o2 sensor, throttle positioning sensor, and the MAF and MAP sensors. Best diagnosed by using an OBDII scanner to scan for codes. If no codes are present I would then check for the pressure coming from the fuel pump to make sure it is still functioning.

SOURCE: 2003 Camry won't stay idling after I changed battery

This is extremely common :)

With time your throttle body gets gummed up with oily residue from the PCV system. As this happens, the computer adapts to the restriction it causes in the throttle body.
When you unhook the battery, these learned values are lost and the default settings for idle control are used. Unfortunately the default settings are no longer sufficient to keep the idle correct with it all gummed up.

Take your intake hoses off the throttle bodies and clean the insides (open the throttle plates for better access) with a rag and some brake parts cleaner or throttle plate cleaner, available from your local parts store.

Reassemble and start the car, your idle problems should be gone immediately.

SOURCE: From red light truck started sputtering and and stalled out

Hello. The GMC Sierra has an electric fuel pump so you should ensure that its fuses and relays are working before checking it. You may need to clean your fuel pump or replace it if your gas tank is not empty, but your vehicle has difficulty getting fuel. The GMC Sierra comes in a variety of styles and trim levels that can affect the replacement fuel pump you choose.

SOURCE: STARTS BUT WONT STAY ON WITHOUT KEEPING MY FOOT ON

Change your fuel filter and run some fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. Take your air intake hose off the throttle body and spray some carb cleaner and get all of the black gunk out of the inside of your throttle body. Change your spark plugs, spark plug wires, oxygen sensor, distributor cap and rotor. Have your ignition timing set, the correct setting for your 1994 Isuzu pickup is: 6 Degrees

This could be many things, start by retrieving any codes the emission system may have thrown, may need a tune up, may have jumped timing, may have a head gasket blown.

My 1998 dodge caravan won't stay running. starts up but shuts down instantantly or when i take my foot off the gas pedal,

ok i have a 1998 durango with the 5.2L 318 engine. had trouble with a bad cell in my battery. I went out bought an optima red top battery for it 800cca. put it in and had same trouble. No start without putting foot on gas. wouldn't stay running without holding foot on gas. CPU has to relearn it's programming once you unplug it for long periods of time. mine was without power for about 2-3 weeks till i got new battery. Start with this.. first check under air filter make sure a squirrel hasn't made a mess under your air filter and it's clogging the air intake. Then pull off the lid to your injector cover ( the screw down lid coming from the air box ( with air filter in it) to "carb") make sure all your cables move freely. put that all back together and close hood. Start truck with foot slightly on gas pedal to get started. keep it at about 1k to 1500 rpm for about 1-2 minutes. Rev motor to about 2500rpm and let it die out if it will. Get out lock doors with key fob if you have it. if not make sure to lock doors. ( trust me it worked for me) let sit for 5 minutes. come back out and unlock door and relock door 3 times with fob ( if you have it ) or key if you don't have a fob. Then unlock it with the key and enter vehicle. Start truck as before and keep it around 1k to 1500 rpm again for about 30 seconds rev it up and should keep running. Mine did. I think the iac was stuck from sitting and has now since loosened up.
Good luck hope ti works for you.

Truck will not stay running without giving gas after a jump off

when the battery goes dead it looses its memory on engine settings like idle speed.. two things you can do first one is to clean the throttle bore with carb cleaner... the other is to start with foot on gas and slowly bring it back to idle... it will pick up the idle air position to keep itself running if you do it slowly... everything happens over time so as the throttle gets dirty the computer makes these adjustment on its own and when the battery dies it starts out basicly at different percentage of idle control tht it really needs because of the carbon buildup on the throttle plates
