I have replaced the battery and checked the altenator but the battery light is still on and the battery is not charging, when the battery gets low the abs warning light comes on for a while followed by most of the rest of the warning lights before the car dies

Your alternator maybe on its way out or battery getting weak. Clean & tighten all connections at battery, and if no difference have your battery load tested & alternator checked for output voltage.Basically you should have your charging system checked if your unfamilar with it. A voltmeter will do what you want , if you have one and are experienced at using it.

Most vehicles if you get the car running and unhook the positive battery cable it will stay running that is because it is running off the alternator. if it dies like your talking about I would most definitely say your alternator needs to be replaced. Most likely when you jumped your father in laws pick up there was a bad ground somewhere and your alternator got a surge of electricity and it fried it. Hope this helps.

check the fuses in the POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX under the hood, There is a 75A in-line fuse and #11 - 15A fuse see if they are good.... test your alt. loom for opens, and cables .....hope this helps...GL

If you have an Auto Zone store near you have them test your charging system they will do this FREE of charge and tell you if it is the battery or alternator. If you do not live near this auto parts store check with one that is near you and they will probably do the same for you. Good Luck With This

Check all fuses, both inside and outside. Use a volt meter to check the output of the alt., by setting the meter to D/C/ volts, put the black wire on battery GROUND and the red wire on the big terminal of the alt.,,, which the wire is held on with a nut and washer, or a lock nut.If your reading is around 12.0 - 12.6,,, try another alt....
If the reading is 13.8 - 14.6 ,, you have a problem between the alt and the battery.
Hope this helps.
