Coolant temp sensor tells the computer how hot or cold the engine is so it can regulate the idle and fuel mixture, when it fails there usually is no cooling fan and you will have trouble starting the engine and keeping it running.

I was browsing unsolved problems. If you still have the problem, I'll try to help you. But it's going to be awhile trying to communicate back and forth. First...Check the engine for spark. Take off a plug wire and stick a screw driver in the wire end and place the metal part of the screw driver next to something on the van that's metal. Have someone crank it over for just a second or two and see if a small spark jumps from the screw driver to the metal part. I'll check back for your answer.

SOURCE: the fan motors keeps running after car is shut off. Also sometimes fans start when car is started cold.

I had the same thing happen to me...fans would run even when car turned off. Was the thermostat. Got one with high temp-92* I think, it did the trick!

SOURCE: shaking mazda mpv 2003 in idle and loud radiator fan

Hello there, As far as the check engine light I would think since you mentioned it shacking that your light will probably be on for a misfire, Meaning most likely you have a spark plug wire going bad. I would stop by somewhere such as Autozone for a free check to tell you why your light is on just to double check.

Your fan issue could be several different things such as the fan motor going bad or the blades could be rubbing something, that one is a little tricky without hearing it.

Good Luck and I hope this does help you some. Allen

I have a mazda mpv 2002. Fans do not work unless the ac is on. Changed the cfm and still the same. Could cooling temp sensor be not signalling the module while still operating normal temperature readings

The fans will not come on till the temperature is above about 90 degrees so it sounds like yours is working ok! The fans will come on as soon as the AC is turned on!

I have a Mazda MPV 2003, i bought from japan, 7 months ago, this van was running well until two days ago, it stsrts and cut off, starts again and while driving it is losing power then it will speed up

Before any diagnostics, I would run a tank of gas with a bottle of fuel dryer and injector cleaner to ensure that the engine racing isn't resulting from moisture and clogged injectors.

The air is cold, but even when the fan is on high, the air conditioner of my 2004 mpv blows very weak and won't cool van very well.

hello l..... Begin by replacing the air conditioner relay. That should solve the weak fan volume. If the AC still is not as cold as it should be get the AC system charged [add more refrigerant]. The charging requires special tools so most folks leave that to the pros at the garage. Joe

I have a 2004 MPV with 88k miles on it that feels as if it is missing when I drive. When I am stopped and it does this I notice a slight drop in RPM's. In addition the engine cooling fan is not running at...

The cooling fan turning on will normally cause an amperage draw making the engine drop in rpm's. However I beleive there may be a problem with the fan relay which switches the fan on at different speeds depending on the temperature demands of the engine.I dont beleive a bad relay will come up as a code because it's not a sensor.

My 2005 mazda mpv's fan does not shut off after the ignition is turned off. I must turn the ignition back to the starting position and then off again or the fan will continue to run for several minutes...

I have a 2003 MPV with the same problem. There was a recall in 2004 to replace the fan controller module, which apparently would fail regularly. I had mine replaced under the recall although there were no symptoms at the time. Now it appear that the replacement has failed, but I've already used the recall and you can only do it once. Even though your warranty is up the recall still applies if your car is of the model that qualifies. Call your dealer, and he can tell you if you are eligible. It is almost certainly the problem. I don't care how you drive or what the temperature is, your fan shouldn't run immediately after starting or run for more than a couple of minutes after you shut it off.
