first if old belt is still on jeep draw a diagram of how belt is routed first even i get confused motor needs to be cool release tention on belt some have spring loaded tentioners some you have to losen the center bolt on tintioner pully and turn ajusting bolt to losen belt install new belt tention propley
What you are lookin for on the engine is something called an Idler pulley or a belt tensioner pulley. Not being familiar with the configuration of the model you described, if the engine is side mounted the pulley will be on the passenger side under the belt. The belt will actually be wrapped around the tensioner. What you have to find out is which pulley it is. It will be a smaller pulley and the belt will be in contact with this pulley. It has no other use the to cause tension for the belt. Probably a 11-13mm wrench.
if you're refering to the serpentine drive belt, most are held tight with the tentioner & you will need a 3/8'' drive breaker bar to pull back on it & while doing so, remove the belt carefully & then gently releasing the tentioner. most have a square 3/8'' hole in the middle of it to insert the tool & is easier to remove from under the vehicle. hope this helps.
The first thing you need to do is release the tention from the belt tenisioner. But before you do that snap a picture of the belt routing . You can release the tenistion from the tenisitioner by inserting a 3/8 ths scoket extention into the square slot in the front of the tensioner it fits nicely put the extention on a 3/8 ths drive scoket wrench and push againest the spring tention on the tensioner so toward the center of the engine . The belt will fall off . If you are replaceing the belt you should also replace the tensioner its a ware part and likely caused the belt failure in the first place . Its a one bolt hold down with a locater pin on the back of the tensioner Then install in reverse order
Most vehicles have a belt routing diagram sticker under the hood. If you do not have one, make a drawing of how the belt goes on before removing the old one. There will be whats called a tentioner pulley. Usually you can use a ratchet and socket to loosen the tention. It is spring loaded so watch your fingers and slowly release pressure on your ratchet when you are ready. Remove the old belt and put the new one on.
there should be a tention pully that is spring loaded and you will need a socket to fit the bolt in the center. then turn clock wise and hold to release tention and set belt in place then slowly release the pully
go back and look again ,these motors are so simple to repair ,thats if its the ford zetec engine if its one of them american models with a gas guzzler 6pot then i havent a clue
