The check engine light is a seperate issue from the inop. drivers door lock.A check engine light comes on after the PCM recognizes an input from any of the engines sensors 3 Key cycles or reading cycles while it is monitoring engines sensors. It could be as simple as an oxy.sensor out of spec to a low fuel tank pressure reading when you forget to put the gas cap back on after filling your tank. You need to have the car "scanned" for diagnostic trouble codes for the answer to the Check engine light". As for the inop. drivers door lock,it sounds like the lock solenoid stopped working and needs a replacement.Dealer, repair shop,or auto parts store can supply that fix.

Central locking works by way of little electric motors that engages and disengages the door lock. The drivers door has an additional set of contacts in the actuator which signal the controller when it changes position. The controller activates the servo motors when a signal is received from the receiver or from the drivers door servo motor. So in your case I suspect the motor part of the drivers door actuator is done for.
To replace you will have to remove the inner driver's door panel to get at the actuator. The actuator itself cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced as a unit.
