I was driving down the roat and my suddenly i realized that my truck wouldn't go any faster and it was slowing down. I then realized that the power steering had gone out. I had it towed to the house and my husband assumed it needed a new fuel filter. its still not starting. we are probably going to get a new fuel pump, but ive seen alot of posts about the fuel pump relay and other fuses to check that aren't located under the hood. Where are these located? We don't have the owners manuals anymore. Im trying to save as much money as possible!
Pretty sure the fuel pump relay would be under the hood, along with the fuel pump fuse. They should be in the Power Distribution Box, or the fuse/relay block, look under the block's cover for location of the FPR and the fuse.
If you find the relay, hold your finger lightly on it while someone turns the key from off to ON. You should feel the relay click, and you should hear the pump in the tank turn on for 2 seconds. If you feel the click, but no pump, then likely the pump has failed. If you don't feel the click or hear the pump turn on for 2 seconds (with key cycled to ON), then the fuel pump circuit needs troubleshooting. But that is assuming the fuel pump fuse is good-test all the fuses if you not sure which is the fuel pump fuse.
If that fuse is blown (fuel pump fuse), the relay will or should still click, but the pump will not work.
If you hear the pump, you still need to check fuel pressure, as it may be a weak pump. Autozone will lend fuel pressure gauges for a deposit that is returned when the gauge is returned.
Didnt specify year of vehicle most relays for tahoe is under hood and at side of dash on drivers side -- turn key to on and listen for hum of pump no hum try starting with starter fluid if starts test for power to connections ,pump and relay if power more than likely pump shot

fuel sending unit is in the tank. this is normal after about 75k miles and up. pump and sending unit are sold together. fuel sloshes from front to rear making the float on the sender rise and fall.

The Fuel Pump Relay is located in the Glove Box under a little cover on the upper left side. The Fuel Control Relay is the left relay and The Fuel Pump Relay is the right. To test these relays, swap them and then try to start the vehicle, or blow the horn. If the horn blows then use that relay for the pump and you may at least drive the vehicle where needed! If the vehicle starts, then replace them as a pair.
