I am looking for the symptoms of a faulty neutral safety switch on a 1995 jeep wrangler....just want to be sure thats the problem before I replace it.
No start (engine doesn't crank with starter motor) in neutral and park position, one or both
Sign neutral switch is bad. no back up lights, vechicle wont start.when you apply brakes cant get vechicle out of park. both neutral switch and brake transmission shift solenoid. if you have problems getting vechicle out of park check the brake transmission shift interlock solenoid fuse first before assuming neutral safety switch is bad.
The brake light circuit is what power up the park lock system not the range switch
yep when you apply brakes it power up park shift solenoid. neutral switch on a different circuit. i had problem with neutral switch my back up lights did not work some times i could not get car to start. i told my friend to check make sure the shift lock solenoid fuse not blowed if he is having problem getting out of park. but a faulty neutral switch will cause no start and no back up lights.

If it has flanges on both ends, just unbolt it and replace. If it has welded pipes you will need to cut it off and use adapter sleeves and clamps. Really not rocket science...at worst, you may need to remove the hangars on the rear portion of the system to get enough room to install.

The switch is on the transmission..It is usually a dealer item but you can get one from Rockauto.com for about 1/4 of what the dealers charge.
SOURCE: neutral safety switch
It is located on the side of the transmission, follow the shift cable down to it you will recognize it because it has a electrical wire comming off it and either a shift lever or shift cable going to it.
