My 2003 Quattro 3.0 A6 got one problem. When I set the temperature to be higher than 69F, the air conditioner always blow out very hot and the air smells bad, seems like coming from the engine room. Another thing is I found there is a P401 alarm which shows the back side of catalytical converter failed. Is there someone know what's the air conditioner problem? And is it related to the P401 alarm? Should I change the catalytical converter? I heard it is very expensive. Tks.

Say Eliz make sure your radiator is full of antifreeze and make sure your over flow is at proper level.. If your low on fluid at all the heater will not get hot water to it to work properly .. this is a good start if it has been working in the past ... and thanks jerry

If its blue smoke then your valve stem seals are worn and that is allowing oil to enter the cylinders and burning with the gas.

could be an a/c leak, could be mold in the vents.....there are vent cleaning kits you can get at most auto parts stores....they consist of a spray that kills mold, however you do not want to use them if you dont know how to take the ductwork out of the dash as it may leak and destroy electrical components in the dash.
