My speedometer stopped working and i dont know how to fix it.

It stopped working when two hot wires touched where i used to have a stereo and they sparked. and now my speedometer wont work

It is probably a fuse that has blown. Check your fuses and replace the dashboard cluster fuse that has blown.

It's probably not a fuse. It sounds like your vehicle speed sensor went bad in the transmission. The reason your radio stopped working was because your radio is probably equipped with speed sensitive volume and it requires a speed signal to work.

U have a Factory audio auxiliary amp in the truck, the radio is just a head unit with a preamp feeding a main amp, that is behind the right rear 1/4 panel trim panel in the cargo area, if your new sound unit has preamp outputs use them, other wise u must wire around the Ford factory amplifier.

SOURCE: 2000 windstar speedometer stop work

You might need to replace the Instrument cluster. There may be a short in it.

Look for fuse that supplies power to those units.

the bulb could have been bad, yet the aftermarket stereo wiring takes voltage from your dash, hence the illumination/dimmer. really dont need those wires. they hook up to your dash lighting, and draw power from your dash, take those wires out and see if any changes. Id first take the wires out, if no change then the bulbs are probably bad.

My speedometer stopped working 1998 dodge ram and the air bag light came on and stayed on. I replaced both speed sensors(back differential and transmission). Still not working and any ideas?

hi ,the air bag light will need resetting ,have it reset by an auto shop who has a diagnostic machine to plug into it,some dont even charge for this service ,as for the speedo it could be a number of things that will need checking ,firstly fuses,then wiring leading from the speed sensor on the transmission up to the speedometer in the dash ,then have the speedometer removed and checked ,it has to be one of these ,THANK YOU FOR USING FIX YA

You probably blew a fuse and the other affected components are on the same fuse. Check the fuse blocks for any blown fuses and replace as necessary.

Speedometer gauge/climate control lights dont work

Look for a dimmer wire,, sounds like your radio dont have the option for the car dimmer switch,,

the power for these lights run through the dimmer wire for the radio. ether its not hooked up or the radio dont have the option for it.

there is a way to bypass the radio dimmer option,, BUT you have to know what your doing or you could fry something.

look for Car Radio Illumination/dimmer Wire: should be Green.

My speedometer in my car stopped working all of a sudden!

Well, you learned the hard way, always disconnect the neg. battery cable before working on anything electric. (I've screwed things up trying to save a couple of minutes by not disconnecting the cable myself, sure I would be careful and not ground out anything!)
Your diagnostic link plug in is under the dash on the driver's side, mounted on the passenger side of the steering column. Autozone should have been able to find it. Get the codes scanned to see what fried when the wires touched. If you have any questions, post the trouble code #'s here for further help. Good luck! Curt

My idle on my speedometer doesn't work any more help....

look at the wiring from your stereo and make sure there are no wires earthing out that shouldn't be also check the fuse box for blown fuses

No dash lights or dimmer control after installing a stereo system

you have to run a jump wire to you cluster when you pull the factory unit out the aftermarket units are wired just a little different find your illumination wire should be orange and make sure it is wired correctly you may have to tie it in to a different wire,,,, i did this on several gm trucks i cant remember which wire i had to jump it to but i belive i tied the amp and illumantion wires together and made it work your fuse will protect you from doing any damage if you should jump the wrong wire...

it sounds like you have shorted out the stereo. i had a jensen stereo that the display went out on an i checked all the same things that you did an it still wouldnt work. you may could take it apart an look at the circuit board an see if there is a burnt spot or a wire popped free from the board. for future advice always disconnect your battery. i hope this may help

with the ignition in the "off" position get a test light and touch one wire at a time while cycling the ignition switch to the "on" position, When you see that the test light goes off when the ignition switch is in the off position then you found the hot wire, make sure you dont hook it up to the "alway hot " wire or you might drain the battery hope this helps.

Can't get the speedometer to work

Steve, you know that your gas gauge is just a current meter in series with a pot. I would think most auto stores would have your manual. The wiring schematic in the manual is very easy to follow. I have a manual on my 87 that I got at Auto Zone and it covers anything on my truck. Very cheap manual for what you get..
