I had that for the longest time and it was a bulb in the high level, back window brake light that was out. As well as the back lights, check the side makers as well. Is this the Toyota Avalon I answered a question about? Not sure if the dash light signifies a difference between front and back? Check all the lights, you also have a small sidelight marker in the front lights. It is good to have friend helping inside the car as you are checking front rear and sides.
Open the Back and unscrew the tail light screws on the inside of the door jam. The whole tail light assembly will come out. Twist the bulb socket counter clockwise, pull the bulb out. Place new bulb in the sockett, place sockett back in tail light and turn clockwise till it stops. Place tail light back in hole, put screws back in to door jam to hold tail light in.
There is a contact (not short) between wire to brake light and to back light on passenger side, when you press the pedal, electricity is absorbed by barake light bulb and back light dim out. Check cables and connectors, if necessary follow back cables to battery. If the contact is a short the back lights fuse will blow, I think it is a contact between same polarity cables, not a short.
