My Dodge Neon Engine light is on and I did a code search giving code 0420 to check the vacuum line. How do you check the vacuum line on the Dodge Neon 2001.
Is there an easy way to reconnect the vacuum line from engine compartment to the heater controls? Is there an easy way to reconnect the vacuum line from engine compartment to the heater controls?

Not sure what the fuse light means, but you can localize the vacuum leak by going around the intake manifold and plugging off any ports. For example, the purge line can be taken off. Put your finger over the port to see if the engine idles down. If yes, trace the purge line back to the solenoid valve to find the leak. Similarly, you can remove the brake booster line and plug that port. If plugging the ports does not bring the idle down, next check the gaskets. Try spraying some carb cleaner on the gaskets while ybe engine idles. If the speed changes, uou have a gasket leak.
Sounds like you mean the problem could be a leak in the EVAP system. The computer vents the gas tank to the vapor canister several times while you are driving. The engine produces vacuum when it is running. Do you have the actual trouble code ?
Check your vacuum lines, it sounds like one did not get reconnected correctly. When this happens you check engine to come on and will cause your engine's rpm's to rise.
This code indicates that the catalytic converter is not functioning properly. This could be due to a poor state of tune and the poor running engine is overloading the cat to the point where it can't control the emissions, or the cat is simply worn out and needs to be replaced.
If it's a '97, go down to autozone and have them check your check engine light. This will give you an OBD code that you can google to find the actual problem.
Trouble Code Conditions:
Engine at idle speed in closed loop for 200 seconds, BARO Sensor signal less than 8,000 feet, ECT Sensor more than 160ºF, no Low Fuel, MAP Sensor signal less than 23.7" Hg, and the PCM did not detect any purge flow through the EVAP system during this test.
Possible Causes:
EVAP purge solenoid vacuum line loose, leaking or restricted
EVAP purge solenoid stuck leaking, stuck open or stuck closed
EVAP purge vacuum line to canister leaking or disconnected
first inspect all the small vacuum lines
connected to the intake manifold. The plastic lines are
often the cause for this code, as well as the covered vacuum lines. Also look at the gas cap.is it tightened properly and check the inside seal of the cap is it cracked.if so replace it.
