Hello, guy wants to put trans fluid because trans is slipping, depending on what trouble code is popping up, could be trans shift solenoid, or foil harness connector. A typically problematic with these vehicles. Easy enough to effect repair, only specialty tool required is one for adding trans fluid (mobil 1) when done!!!

There is a dipstick, most likely rear drivers side of engine but could be elsewhere. There are only 2 dipsticks in engine compartment, one is oil and the other is trans fluid. They should be marked. You add the fluid down the dipstick tube. Engine needs to be running in park and trans needs to be at operating temp to get accurate measurement on fluid. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: i need to know where is the dip stick to check the

There is no automatic transmission dip stick on your car. There is a long procedure to check and fill and you will need special fluid from VW. Better left to the dealer. If you want the procedure let me know.

SOURCE: transmission fluid level check 02 jetta tdi auto

VW didn't put a "dipstick" on the trans for whatever reason. You technically have to use the VW Vag-Com scanner to properly check the trans fluid level as VW says it has to be checked at a specific temperature. But there is a "shade-tree" workaround. Start the car and leave the engine running the throughout the entire procedure. You have to get the trans fluid warm-a little under normal operating temp. 95F-104F is what you want-you can attain this after letting the car idle for 8 or so minutes. Continuing, leave the trans in park, and make sure you are on as level of a surface as possible. Then loosen the allen plug on the bottom of the trans pan. You will then see another plug. Remove this plug. Fluid should just trickle out of the hole if it is at the proper level. If it trickles out, you are good. If it doesn't you need to add fluid. Add VW spec ATF through the fill port. The fill port on the top front of the trans is capped off by a red cap and is very visible. Very carefully pry the cap off and then wiggle the plug out. I'd highly suggest having a spare red cap on hand-VW dealer has them. Then you can pour fluid into the trans. Add a little bit at at time, and all the while watching for the fluid to tricke out of the trans plug hole. When it trickles out, replace the inner plug and then the outer plug. That's it. Recheck after driving the car for a few miles. FYI- A flud and filter swap on the the VW auto trans takes 3 liters, so keep that in perspective. I hope this helps you out.

SOURCE: where the plug for tranny on 96' jetta is located?

On the manual transmission you go through the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). Its suppose to go 1/2 way up the teeth marks. Does it not say in the Chiltons manual? I can check when I get home.

SOURCE: 1997 jetta shifts hard no fluid dip stick

If your auto trans does NOT have a dipstick, you probably have what's known as an 01M transmission.

These are supposedly "sealed" units, however the fluid can be changed and/or checked, it's jut a bit more involved.

Google "Dan's VW page" for the proper procedure.

How do i check and add fluid to my 2006 vw jetta

It will most likely be on backside of engine, drivers side is a good bet but could be passengerside also. Add fluid through the same spot you check it.

Where do you add transmission fluid in 2006 chevy uplander?there is no fluid bbut we can't find where to add more.also we herd weird pulling sound and van started to over heat some.Thank you for your help

Automatic transmition fluid is added through the dip[stick tube. You should use a funnel that is long with a small opening. Auto Parts stores carry funnels just for this purpose. Add small amounts and check the level frequently when adding fluid. the difference between low and full is usually about 1/2 of a quart. If you over fill an automatic its a pain to get the excess fluid out. Check the fluid regularly for a while and add as needed or take it to a mechanic and have them do it.

Cant find where to add trans fluid on 97 jetta 5 speed

A standard 5 speed does not have a dip-stick for the trans. You have to get it from underneath the car. There will be 2 fairly large plugs, one on the bottom of the trans and one about 1/4 of the way up the side. The bottom one is to drain it, the top one is to check/fill it. You remove the plug with a 1/2 inch drive rachet(no socket) The fluid should be able to be felt or maybe run out a little when you stick your finger into the hole. Make sure you use what ever the manufactorer recomends for fluid. Some standards use 90w gear oil, some use ATF fluid. If you use the wrong type, you can mess up your trans.

If your thinking that your needing fluid because the trans is slipping, you are wrong, you need to replace your clutch.

How do you check transmition fluid in a 1996 Standard Mercury Tracer?

Check transmition fluid is via the trans dip stick located were the engine meets the tranny.. Dip stick should be labled transmition with the engine hot and car in park. pull dip stick out wipe clean. reinsert into tube fully then remove. the highest oil level is the reading level is reference to the stamped marking on the dip stick indicating fluid level "high or low"

2001 malibu transmission slipping

lvd, Start the car, leave the shifter in park position.
Remove the transmission dip stick, wipe it clean, reinsert the dip stick and verify it is between the add and full mark.
Do not go over the full mark as that will create a slip condition caused by foaming oil.
Let me know.
