Replacing oil pump in 95 Cutlass 3.1L

Drain coolant,pull radiator,fan shroud off.Need a fan tool to get that off.Need to pull ac,alt,ps and brackets off. to expose front of engine. Need crank pulley puller. Once that's done the timing cover can be removed. Hint,spring for a new timing set. loosen engine mounts and lift engine at bell-housing remove oil pan bolts.and reverse.Might as well replace oil pump if you intend to keep the van.

the oil pump is inside the engine. Inorder to get to it you will need to drop the a frame and then remove the oil pan. Its not a easy job at all and its my reccomendation that you take it to a shop.

YOU NEED 4.5 QUARTS OF OIL WITH NEW OIL FILTER.YOU NEED OIL FILTER WRENCH YOU NEED WRENCH TO REMOVE OIL DRAIN PLUG.YOU NEED A DRAIN PAN CATCH OLD OIL.NEED LATEX GLOVES TO KEEP GETTING OIL ON HANDS.OIL DOES CAUSE SKIN CANCER.NOW YOU CRANK CAR UP LET IT IDLE 5 MINUTES TO LOOSEN UP OIL AND SLUDGE.TURN OFF ENGINE.SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND USING JACK STAND.PLACE DRAIN PAN UNDER OIL PAN THEN REMOVE OIL DRAIN PLUG LET OIL DRAIN OUT UNTIL IT STOP DRIPPING. PUT OIL DRAIN PLUG BACK IN OIL PAN. I owned a 95 Taurus for several years and done my own maint. I never heard of an external oil pump. The pump is in the oil pan and runs off the cam shaft. To replace it you have to pull the oil pan. After that it is fairly easy. Take out the bolts and it will come out. There are no springs to worry about.If you were talking about some other pump let me know.

Well if you have small hands..you dont need to remove that front mount, but it's probaly best you do, so you have more room to work on it..and if you do remove it, make sure you have a jack with a wood block underneath the oil pan, so that the engine wont drop to far down..and you can raise it up a little if you want to....Goodluck..

drain oil and filter remove.
Drop oil pan under engine.
Un bolt oil pump and re install new pump fill new oil and filter and gasket , cap , start engine test for leaks shut down re check oil level.

You shouldn't have to for head gaskets, makes it easier but not necessary.
For oil pan, you may have too. Depending on how much room there is between pan and crossmember and if pan is in tranny. Some cars the oil pan is 1/4" behind tranny but don't think that is the deal on your car.
