Yes, the special harness is to convert the connection from your truck to fit the connection on the radio. the other option is to cut the harness off the truck a manualy connect all the wires. but trust me from experance. its worth the 20-25 dollars for the harness to save about an hour on the time to install it plus the hassle. not to mention is more of a profesinoal job and alot easier. you can get this part at any circuit city or best buy in the radio installation dept.
HI there... It would be a wise idea to get the special wiring harness for you aftermarket radio. There are several reasons for this. 1 is that it will make your installation a lot easier because it will plug right in to the factory plug and all you have to do is wire the radio to the wires on the new plug.
2) the newer vehicles have the radios wired for lights when you turn your headlights on. aftermarket radios don't always have that. also your stock radio probably stays on when you turn your ignition off and goes off when you open a door. the aftermarket radio is not set up for this and could cause electrical problems if not hooked up. to avoid any nasty electrical headaches I would advise getting that special plug.
