After driving through some mud in 4wd low when i shifted back to 2wd my tranny began slipping when shifting from 2nd into 3rd gear. The next day it would not engage into 3rd at all. I can drive 20 mph up to about 29 mph. Then it shifts out of gear and i can coast back down to 20 mph and start over in 2nd. ATF fluid level is good. No leaks that i can see. Im broke. Should i even bother changing the fluid and filter? Or is there a possible sensor/vacuum/computer cause?
No problems before the mud deal but problems after the mud deal means that the problems started in the mud
check for mud in connections , wires disconnected , harness problems, vacuum hose to actuator broken or missing
run the fault codes to help point to a problem area
the transmission is sealed so there will be no need to change the oil or filter--just clean and check everything that is mud affected

if there is fluid in it take a sniff of it if it smells realy burnt you may want to take it to a trans shop isuzus especialy rodeos and troopers are known for bad transmisions sory
SOURCE: Poor Shifting
Well, if it was low on fluid, and it was driven for a distance, you could of wrecked the interior gears of the tranni or other parts. I'm not a tranni guy but I know if you run a vechile with low tranni fluid you're asking for a new tranni or to have that one rebuilt.

possible range selection detent switch not working causing to get stuck some times in one range only and wont shift to other range 4wd light in dash just keeps flashing for about 10 seconds then goes to previous state this then can jam up 2wd 4wd lever that you then cannot move.
there are 3 switches 2 on trans/transferr case, 1 on front LH diff axle tube actuator (shift on fly). can cause damge to the electric actuator then on transferr case.
suggest you get a dealer to look at or some one that knows this system. is also vaccum operated on front diff shift on fly unit and there were 2 different systems fitted to these vehicles push button 4wd on dash and lever next to gear lever which i take is yours

if your close or over 100,000 miles, better to have the tranny rebuilt.

Gather all you can on your transmission model and specifically how many and where the shift solenoids area located. If external, you can take them off, rig a little 12 volt DC power supply to activate each one while you spray it out with carb cleaner. Reinstall them and give it a try. Some have little screens that get clogged. Clean those too. Consider a professional flush and refill with synthetic fluid. If a four speed automatic, two solenoids can produce all for forward gears. For example both closed = 1st, solenoid A open and solenoid B closed=2nd, A closed and B open = 3rd, both open = 4th. Best of luck to you.
