Ram won't shift into 4wd.

1997 Dodge ram, 4x4, 1500, 5.9 liter, the floor shifter works well, I move into either 4 hi or 4 lo, I get no light on, and only the rear passenger tire has power. I had the transmission rebuilt and it has not worked since. Please help, the truck is stuck in the snow in the backyard!

Thanks for the fast responce, the problem is the shop that did the repair is now longer in buisness, they closed 2 weeks after the repair, the truck does have overdrive, tranny is fine, works great, it just won't go into 4 wheel.

    Thanks

    This is an automatic transmission

Yes, I have tried almost everything, it feels like the truck goes in 4 wheel when it is in nuetral, but when I put it in gear, it seems to "pop out" almost seems there is not enough vacuum there.

OD is controlled electrically. The transmission temperature switch will prevent the OD from working. Also the OD button on the dash can go bad.

Try checking the vacuum line from the transmission to the 4x4 actuator on passenger side of front axle that's what happened to my truck

1995 dodge ram 1500 I need instructions on how to shift out of 4-wheel drive.

well not sure what style shifting it has. if its the floor shifter to select. you need to have the truck in neutral first before changing the 4wd. same thing with push button shifting on the newer trucks. it just works easier for the parts to move not being in gear. if it wont work with the shifter then you might have something that is broke or jammed.

I have 1995 dodge ram 3.9 liter that you have to hold gas pedal to the floor to even move, truck doesn't stall like normal fuel pump trouble.Any idea?

I recommended checking fluid level in trans. first. If that's good try starting the vehicle and shifting from forward to reverse and giving it a couple seconds and either gear so that the trans can prime its self. Last resort drop the pan and put in a new filter and fluid.

The best way to do that is to start the engine put the transmittion in neutral with your foot on the brake and pull it out of 2hi,,,put the trans in park then move shifter to 4 hi or lo.

There are some vaccum lines that go to your axle. there is a disconnect there and a switch that lights up your dash light when engaged. I would first make sure they are still connected and not damaged. The vaccum signal to engage and disengage comes from the top of your transfer case right under the shifter boot. To test if you disconnect is working, apply vacuum to one or the other side of the diaphram for the axle disconnect and try it out. otherwise you may have lost vacuum somewhere or you have a bad switch on your transfer case.

4WD

Look for damaged wires, or something bent, on the Auto Disconnect Device on the front axle before you do anything else. The 4WD HI light is not coming on because the front diff is not engaging.
Re 4 LO: In 4 LO, you ar NOT getting "4 LO", what you are really getting 2WD LO, because of the output gearing of the transfer case.
In any case, your front diff is not locking in, in either mode. The A.D.D. controls the 4 Hi lite.
