This has happened intermittently over the last couple of weeks. I keep wiggling and hitting the button hard and have been able to finally get it into gear. Runs fine once in gear, but never know when the button will be stuck.
Sounds like it is wearing out ,and it may need to be replaced soon,or you are going to be stuck
Thanks--do you mean the gear shift itself or something worse
the gear shifter will jam

It might just be a fuse. Check to see if your brake lights light up when you step on the brake with the key on. If not it is probably just a fuse.
SOURCE: Gear shift rebuilt now my car won't go into park....
generally the first place I would look is under the hood at the linkage on the transmission. it's has a lever with a bracket for the cable.generally the hard shifting is due to a poor adjustment where the lever does not travel as far as it should. first step is to remove the cable from the shifter bar. then move the shifter bar to the park position manually. you will notice you will have to loosen the jam nut for the cable this will allow you to move the cable into the right adjustment. once you have done the adjustment tighten down the jam nut and rehook the cable to the shifter bar you will find that you can shift into park more easily... please rate

if the shifter is loose and sloppy feeling then the shift cable bracket has come loose under the dash at the steering wheel. remove the lower panel under the steering wheel so you can see under the dash then get flash light and look while jiggling the shifter. you should be able to see the cable and bracket. if the bracket is loose then tighten the bolts. note this bracket is at the steering colum.

needs shift tube bushings... you have to pull the steering column down to replace the bushings and put the screw back in the shift tube
