Had someone following me tell me I have no rear brake lights. Replaced both bulbs and checked the fuse (which look good). Still no brake lights. While checking things I found that the emergency flashers don't work. Also the right turn signal flashes too fast. Both the front and rear turn signal bulbs are blinking (albeit too fast). I've had the turn signal issue for about a year now. I guess it's possible the turn signal issue and no brake lights are related ? Yikes if I've had no brake lights for a year. Bad brake light switch ? and/or Bad flasher relay ? Not sure what to do first. Additional info: Headlights and backup lights seem to be working ok on the rear.
Most likely this is a brake light switch issue. Replace switch.
If your emergency flashers don't work, all flasher bulbs are fine, but flashing too fast, then check and replace Hazard light switch.
Thank you for the reply. I replaced the brake light switch and both rear tail light circuit boards with all new bulbs. The new circuit boards fixed the too fast turn signal issue but I still do not have any rear brake lights. I also still do not have emergency flashers either. I put the new brake switch back in the same way the old one was. But looking at how this switch operates there is no way that pushing the pedal in forces the pins inside to rotate up to meet the contacts to complete the circuit. Is there anyway to post pics here ?

Older vehicle, always pull the fuse and make sure the prongs are clean and not corroded. clean and coat with di-electric grease and reinsert several times. Looking isn't enough. only connection for these problems being related is the ground. There are different load ratings for the flasher relay, depending how many lights are on it, as in pulling a big trailer. Check all your ground wires and where they attach to the frame. It used to be if both turn lights didn't work it would not blink, then there are some that will blink faster if one is out, go figure! if brake lights don't work, then check or replace the switch that is activated when the brake pedal is pushed. It is on the brake pedal up under the dash.
There's a switch on the brake pedal arm that controls the brake stop lights, that needs adjustment or replacement.
Hope this helps.
Hi,
If I understand you right based on your post/description, the signal lights would still turn on even if any or both of the flasher relays are removed. Should this be the case, then the signal lights are not getting the power from the flasher relays but from the brake light circuit.
Perhaps your concern is not with any of the flasher, but simply missing or loose ground more particularly with the rear lights. Perhaps you could try determining which of the wires for the brake lights and signal lights (as they come out of the light assembly) would be ground . A test and even possibly a temporary workaround is to hard wire a second ground connection from the determined ground wire of the lights and attach it to any conveniently located bolt or screw to the body. it may be to your advantage to do this on all the rear lights assembly.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

If you have trouble finding signal flasher, turn your right side blinker on, and follow clicking noise to flasher.
SOURCE: front driver side turn signal light doesn't flash
replace flasher......usually located in fuse block area...listen in this area....select passenger side ...then select driver side...you can hear flasher clicking...you have seperate flashers for each...FLASHERS are small cubes plugged into fuse block....probable bad driverside flasher

Hi,
When you said that you checked the brake switch, did you check it live? Meaning verified live power to the switch, press switch, and then power came out the other terminal?
If so, also verify zero power on brake press, at the offending brake light bulb terminal. You must verify the test light each time you move it...leave running lights on...
After verifying that there is no power coming, after the brake is pressed, note the wire color and find it where it comes to the steering column and test there... This would eliminate wires and connections between front and the rear of the vehicle, unlikely, but needs to be tested.
After verifying no power at that terminal, then yes the t/s switch is certainly suspece. This may be the time to get a mechanic to verify and replace the switch, there are locks, tilt mechanisms, air bags, column bearings, etc involved. Failures risk loss of vehicle control (locking or binding for example.)..
Hope this gets you going in the right direction.

I had this problem, and to be honest, it happened to the left side about a week later...it's the board that the bulbs plug into...it's a very common problem with this model. So popular that you can normally get the socket board off the shelf at a parts store! it's extremely simple to replace, and I replaced all the bulbs at the same time!
