I am have a 91 Honda accord and recently I ve noticed the emergency brake light (red one on the dash board) will turn off and on randomly even if the e-brake was never engaged. It does not turn on like its flashing but will turn on stay on for a few secs turn off and wont turn back on for a few mins. Honestly there is no interval but I have noticed it coming on when it is really cold out and if the car has sat for awhile. That said if i drive the car and come back later i see no problems again until tomorrow or after a few hours of sitting. I might be over reacting but i just dont want the e-brake to actually be engaged with out me noticed and destroying my transmission.

It should be your brake light switch. There is a little plate welded to the arm of the pedal that has a hole with a rubber stopper. The rubber stopper is most likely missing, or damaged. You should be able to take a flashlight and see the plate and the switch. If the hole is plugged up, you will need the brake light switch, if not, replace the plug.

Sounds like you might have a caliper that is stuck and is not fully disengaging. If it is in the rear then you may have a bad rear caliper. Twoo things you can try. One is to crawl under the ca and adjust the tension two nuts on the emergency brake line. If that does not resolve the problem then remove the back tire and try to spin the drum or rotor whichever you may have. If it does not spin then try adjusting the e brake cable more if it still does not respond then you need to do a brake rebuild. Also does it pull while it is dragging? If it is then you will need to rebuild the brakes no matter what.
