SOURCE: 2001 GMC Sonoma Engine stopped while driving

sounds like it could be plugged injectors or a timing problem.

SOURCE: engine won't start

when you pulled the dist did you mark it before pulling it and were ALL the timing marks lined up
if not you will need to pull # 1 sparkplug and get the piston up to TDC (top dead center) on the compression stroke then put the dist back in with the rotor pointing to # 1 plug wire .
Be sure to check dist direction of rotation and comfirm firing order

SOURCE: My GMC pickup will only start with starting fluid.

Check your fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 60 to 65 psi when the fuel system is primed. "engine not running" once the engine is started the fuel pressure should drop around 5 psi, any other readings will give you a no start or no run. Your fuel filter may be close to the end of it's life or the fuel pump may not be pushing enough pressure when the battery is under load and under 12 volts, once the engine start's the voltage rises to 13.5 volts giving the fuel pump that extra to keep the fuel pressure up. The other common problem to your Vortec engine is the fuel system. The fuel pressure regulator is know to go bad on the Spider system, which also would give you the no start problem. Start simple with replacing the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve and then go from there. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your truck running 100% again.

SOURCE: 97 gmc pickup, 5.7 eng, fuel pump not operating,

What you need to do is check you fuel pressure. Go to a local auto parts store and buy a fuel injection pressure tester. The pressure fitting is on the top of the motor its a 3/8 ish sized metal line and has a screw on fitting like a tire valve does. This line comes up from the back of the motor to the right of the distributor and goes down into the intake. Make sure to have a rag handy to catch the fuel seepage. After you connect the pressure tester turn the key on and off three times and read the gage you should have atleast 58 pounds of pressure. If you have 56 pounds it won't run because the fuel injectors are a poppit valve style and need atleast 58 pounds of pressure to operate.

Temp on 96 Sonoma going up and down ?

Check the radiator with an inferred temperature gun. Check each tube to make sure that all tubes have the same temperature. If they don't, then you have a radiator that is partly clogged.

GMC Sonoma automatic Transmission Problems, engine rev's in D & 3rd

First check trans. fluid. It should be full, & clean. Clean means light red color fluid (like red cool-aid) if it looks like darker red, or brown fluid, like motor oil, that is way too dirty & should be flushed. May need to change the filter too. dirty trans. fluid is your big enemy. could also be an electrical problem in the trans like a shift solenoid or something like that, but check for clean fluid first.

Common for the transmission line to the radiator has failed due to corrosion. You can replace the line or section it off bad part with a new line, just make sure you use compression clamps. I had the same problem and i ended up running a new line with a inline remote transmission oil filter. B&M makes a universal remote transmission oil filter and runs around $45.00. Good luck and hope it's just the line that went bad, keep me posted.

could have a blown head gasket or cracked head or worse case scenario, a cracked block letting oil into the combustion chamber and out the exhaust. if it is letting coolant into the oil then pull the dipstick and there should be a milky white look to it where the oil tried to mix with the coolant. but its normal to have water alone drip from the drain hole in the exhaust from condesation. for every gallon of fuel your vehicle uses, it produces about a gallon of water thru the exhaust
