Brakes caliper I HAVE A FORD CONTOUR 95.IN MY HAYNES MANUAL ITS SAY TO PUSH THE PISTON BACK INTO THE CALIPER BUT ITS NOT MOVING.IS IT PUSH OR TURN

to replace rear pads on a focus,you need to remove the caliper assembly remove both pads you will notice that the caliper piston has a grove, that is where a special tool locates because the caliper has the hand brake incorporated in it and has a thread in the back of the piston you need the tool to put pressure and turn the piston to move the piston down into the bore of the caliper to allow for the extra thickness of the new pads then , make sure that the piston grove is in the right position because the pad locates in that grove so fit pads back into caliper make sure your slides in the caliper are moving freely so you dont get any binding of the pads refit caliper do the same on the other side but the only thing different is that the piston turns opposite ,you will see if you are turning the wrong way the piston will try to turn out of the bore and you need it to turn in .BE VERY CAREFUL when the job is complete and you are ready to test drive the vehicle you need to pump the pedal until you have a full and solid bake pedal, because you need to push out the caliper pistons before you have a solid pedal and then you will need to top up your brake fluid at the master cylinder and your ready to go regards agwbk

replacing brake pads is pretty simple but because the results of not doing it correctly is pretty severe (can you say accident) I recomend you get a Haynes manual for your vehicle. Generally they can be purchased for approximately $20 at autozone. The basics for replacing brake pads (as opposed to brake shoes) is to losen the brake caliper so it can be moved up off the brake rotor. Then the old pads pop out. Next the brake caliper piston is pushed back into the caliper and the new pads fit in. Now the caliper is placed back over the brake rotor. Again, get the manual.

Brake shoes or Pads. My contour has disk brakes all round. You may have to screw the piston back in(clockwise) to get more room for the pads. This is because the parking brake has a screw device to actuate the parking brake. and you have to turn it to get it to go further in..Hope this helps.

Notice the Two holes on the caliper piston face? They receive the pins of a special tool that turns and presses in at the same time to collapse the piston. You may be able to approximate the effect with a pair of needle nose pliers or such and turn & press in. The right tool works best.

the rear caliper have allenkey screw..first open the cover scew that cover the allenkey. and than turn the allenkey srew to move the piston..
after piston coming out, the are clip to remove the piston holder..
than remove all the part and cleaned..after that install new oil seal for hand brake lavel.. mostly the leaking come from oil seal hand barake lavel.

hi if the hand brake is operated with the brake caliper too then yes it will be a wind back if you do not have a tool you can use large grips and turn the piston clockwise beingcarfull not to damige the dust seal and after a few turns then push the piston back it will move but slowly

nice car i have one myself but the back brakes are a little bit tricky because you can not just push the brake calipers piston back into the bore. but here is how you can do it. you need a large plieres and you have to put the head of the pliers into the calipers piston then spread apart the handels so that the head of the pliers opens up against the inside walls of the piston. then all you have to do is Turn the piston back into its bore. See the rear caliper piston on the mustangs are just like a bolt. they are threaded into the bore and when your pads were they screw them selves out so when you redo your brakes you have to screw them back in just like a bolt. take the brake caliper off, this is the part that holds and moves the brake pads thare will be 2 bolts holding it on ,one on top one on bottom. after taking bolts loose you may half to pry the caliper up and off brake rotor. once this is done remove old pads and use a brake caliper piston retraction tool to push the piston back into the caliper. you can get this tool at your local parts store or use a C clamp with one of the old brake pads to push it back.install new brake pads and install caliper .after completion make sure you pump the brakes till you get a good pedal before moving vehicle

On the rear brakes on this vehicle you have to screw the calipers in.

As the post above states for solid caliper pistons (which this vehicle has on the rear), there is a tool for this and you can rent it at AUTOZONE. ALSO REMEMBER, if you turn the brake caliper piston Clockwise and it does not go in, turn it COUNTER CLOCKWISE. I cannot remember which side is counter clockwise, but I think it is the left hand side (as you sit in the car).

Jack it up - take the wheels off, there are two bolts that hold the caliper to the wheel mounting.

Unbolt the 2 nuts (Get a Haynes manual for $20 if you can't work out which they are) and slide the caliper off the disk.

You can now swap out the old pads for the new ones but you will probably need to push in the caliper piston to make room to get the new pads back on the disk. Typically leave the old pads in and use a couple of large screw drivers or a small tyre levers to push the piston back into the caliper, check that the brake fluid reservoir is not too full to do this by checking the level frequently as you push the piston in, Once fully back you can put the new pads in the caliper and slide the caliper back over the disk - line up the holes for the bolts and re bolt the caliper back on. It really should be tightened to the right torque setting so again if you have a Haynes manual (Pep boys, Autozone etc.) you can see the right torque settings also.
