I own a 2008 outlander. My problem is that when the vehicle is in Drive and is idling, the heat goes cold. Its like the air conditioner is on. The Dealership said it was the computer and it needed a upgrade... done and the problem is still there. The dealership said is was the thermostat and it needed changing... done and the problem is still there. Can anyone help me???
My wife has a 2007 Outlander, and we have had similar problems with the heating system. Whenever the temp. drops below 0, the same thing
,when the vehicle idles, cold air blows. The dealership is going to install the ECU used in the 2009 Outlander next week. Has anyone had this done, and did it work??
The reason you need a heater is probably you are in a cold region. snow is probably settling on the condensor, the same way the hot coolant would, if the radiator is leaking, and the person wants cold ac.
First, find another mechanic through a friend. You're getting taken by these guys. As for the heating problem, how does it act when you are actually driving? If it works fine, listen when you slow down for a noise like air escaping. If you hear it, you may have a vacuum leak that is causing the air dampers to close. It's a pretty cheap fix.
Check back before you spend more $$.

my wifes has the same problem.i have been a mechanic over 25yrs.it is a flow problem,not engine temp or heater control related.heat is ok over 1000rpm.mitubishi needs to design a different water pump to increase flow.my wife refuses to drive it in cold weather.i work at a dodge dealer and am kicking myself for this ourchase.
I have a 2007 Outlander and have exactly the same problem. My heater was terrific for the first two winters---now if the outside temp goes below 32--the heater blows cold air.
I also had the computer updated and the thermostat replaced with no change to the problem. I am heading back to the dealer again today.
I have the exact same problem.. got the computer upgraded but did not solve the prob.

I have the same problem with my 2007 Outlander LS. The heat goes cold on all settings when it is NOT in the recirculate mode. It is fine when it recirculates which tells me that the water pump is pumping enough fluid through the core. I am presenting this blog to the service manager to see what excuse they have for not being able to fix it since I have had it at the dealer 3 times and I am going back again. They have bled the cooling system and did a computer software upgrade, and offered to change the thermostat. Maybe the 4th time they will get it right but I am not holding my breath.
My husband bought me a 2007 Outlander in June of 2008, and live in Northern Maine. It's normal for us to get really cold temperatures. When it is above 20 degrees out, the vehicle gives good heat, when it gets lower than that or below zero, even if the vehicle runs for 30 minutes, you get heat for about 15-20 minutes and than it turns cold, just like you said, the AC comes on. Well, took it to the garage, they contacted some Mitsubishi helpline and told me that it was normal for that vehicle. Told me that I would have to put it on recirculate when it turned cold and leave it there until the windows fogged up and than turn it back and would have to play with it like that all the time. Still haven't figured out how it can be normal. If anyone has a solution, I would love to have it. I travel each day with that vehicle to work and have a little one in the back seat wrapped in a blanket to stay warm.
I have just resolved a similar problem where the car was blowing only cold air after changing the thermostat to no avail. The problem was a blockage in the return feed pipe to the header tank, once unblocked hot air came through a treat.
