Cigarette lighter outlet doesn't work. (I'd love to be able to charge my cell phone as I drive.) Bought car (used) in 2008 & that outlet has never worked. Checked fuses multiple times (ones under the hood & also the interior ones) & none of them are blown. Thanks for your help!
It could be burnt out, it could have a bad ground wire or connection, or it could be a missing power wire.
It would be easy to diagnose with a cheap test light. You only have to know BASIC electricity to use a test light for solving automotive electrical problems. You clip the lead of the tester to a good ground, and that makes the probe of the tester light up the bulb when it touches a wire or element that has current. It flows through the tester to ground while lighting up the test bulb. So you can find the hot wire to the outlet. Or if it's not there you can use the testlight to see if the fuse has power. That outlet is either hot at all times, or it is switched off the ignition key so hot only when key is ON. Whatever, the fuse has to get power to it before the outlet, so test the fuse for power if the outlet's wire has no power.
Those outlets are tricky to test, cause the hot part is at the center, but the sides of the outlet are ground. If you don't touch the side but only probe the center of the outlet, you can light a test light on a good outlet .
I suggest you remove the cigarette socket and check if it has 12 volts on it with a multimeter. If it has 12 volts on the connection then the socket is faulty and needs to be replaced. If there is not 12 volts on it and all the fuses are OK, then you have a fault in the wiring to the socket.
Replace the receptacle.

There's one under the hood, on the right side... labeled Fuse Box and then there's another on the left side of the steering wheel, near the signals, behind the little fold out compartment (which you have to take out to get at the fuses)

No, it won't be covered by warranty if you installed something yourself. Check your owner manual for where the fuse shud be, its probably blown or missing

The fuse for these items is the second one down in the right hand row in the fusebox down by the driver's feet. Swap the fuse with another one to check.

I had the same issue with the cheaper bulbs. Sylvania sent me some higher end bulbs and have had no issue for years. (I hope that saying that will not bring on a burn-out;)
