I just replace the starter DIY style on 2005 dodge neon SE, the next day the check engine light came on- think this is related?
My car would not start, battery was only 3 month old, so I replaced the starter myself this weekend The next day the check engine light came on. When replacing the starter I had to disconnect the battery and battery housing, disconnected the air intake box thingy and stupidly detached the radiator hose but quickly put that back on. Should I assume I just messed up on the reattaching parts or could something more serious be at work here.

There are only two kinds of 2003 Dodge Neon SE's equipped with a 2.0L engine. The kind that has had car problems and the kind that is GOING to have car problems!
So tell me, what kind of car problems are you having?
You've checked all the fuses. The fuse's in question
are #9 #10 #11 these are ign/start related. Also in the
power dist. center under the hood left side by the battery, check fuse #21. The starter relay is also
located in the pwr. dist ctr. Also if you have a factory
anti theft system. It could cause this problem.
Hope this helps.
there is a code 51 first of all, try putting octane boost in the tank, there has been several completes all across the country of watered gas, i have a 96 and a 95 neon and within days of filling both up the code 51 came up. the boost helped 1 and the MAP sensor had to be replaced on the 96. hope this helps
have checked the starter, if it clicks, but no crank, that is a starter, if cranks, but does not turn on, that could be a bad battery. ( assuming you have gas )
I was having the same exact problem with my 2005 neon as well. The guy at Discount auto suggested the starter itself was the problem(cost approx $200). The car isn't old enough to be having a starter issue so I figured it was something more simplilar. My dad took a look and founf out it was the starter relay. It is located in the black fuse/relay box on the driver's side right next to the battery. I had to get a new relay at the dealership(cost $20) and my car starts perfectly. Hope this helps
