When I start my car after it hasn't been used for a few hours it won't start at first but just sounds like it is stalling out. I have to sit with the key in the ignition sitting idle with the battery running for 5 minutes before the engine will actually turn on. Tried replacing the spark plugs but that did not help.

Just a thought. If you have an Autozone parts store near you, they have a free code scan service. It my help to narrow down the source of the problem. If you are a more serious DIY you can go to the library and find a Mitchells or Chilton service manual it will give the the test proceedure and specs for the coil pack

Could be your alternator not being able to spin enough current to start the car. Battery alone wont be enough to start the car. The alternator kicks in and helps. So check the alternator out. Take the alternator out and take it to autozone and they will check it for you for free.

I have the same car but don't have that problem with this one however, I did with the 99 I traded for this one. I figured out that if the wheels were not left straight, any degree of angle facing either direction, would freeze something in the steering column and not allow it to start. Had it towed twice before the tech said he had the same problem in the past. Never happened after that. The prob I had with the 2004 Taurus, bought a cheap battery from wal-mart and it ran everything but my car, tech said it's probably the reason the alternator had failed. Check your brand of battery. My battery light stayed on for two months, started fine, switched the battery from the wal-mart one, light went off instantly.

Also, this happens when it is cold outside (like below 70 degree Fahrenheit) but doesn't occur during the summer months
There is no clicking sound either when I am turning the ignition key and trying to start the car. It just sounds like I am flooding the car because the engine won't start.
