Feb 11, 2006 - engine dies when shifting into reverse or drive ... After it dies it starts right up and idles fine in park or neutral. ... these ignition items because you weretrying to cure the stalling, or, did the stalling occur after you replaced these items? ...The only thing that kept the car running was adjusting the Idle screw up.

Just to give an update on my car - I've been having an issue with the car stalling when moving from Park into Reverse or Drive (I have automatic). ... I have been playing with the idle advance trying to get more ... I put in the remainder of the AT fluid I had on hand and the car never died on shifting after that.
Your idle air controller may be failing. Begin checking for stored codes using a code reader, and progress to standard troubleshooting steps such as checking spark, fuel delivery, and operation of the intake air control circuit.
Since the car stall only in the drive position, it sounds(i'm not there to actually ck the car)like when the engine torques, it might be pulling on a harness somewhere and killing the ignition. Do this, start the car and under the hood while the engine is running, move or jiggle the harnesses around and see if the car stalls. If the car stalls try to pinpoint the location on the harness and look for frayed or broken wires.
shift linkage needs adjusting,,could be bent, easy fix, located along firewall to fram beneath the column, ask your son wut he ran over and didnt tell u about... hope i could help...:)
What engine? Rear wheel drive ?Sounds like shift linkage or cable out of adjustment slightly. Have a look at where cable or rod attaches to transmission for adjustment. If not sure of what your looking for get back to me with info.
I do not know what you are looking at in the manual, but you probably heard a horrible noise when you put it into park, as the parking pawl tries to hold the car in place. Thist usually does not harm the transaxle. If the engine won't start then something else happened, perhaps the neutral safety switch was damaged or knocked out of adjustment. You might try to move the shifter back and forth and then back into park and then try to restart. If that doesn't work try to put the car in neutral to start. If you must have the car towed somewhere the repair should not be expensive, just have them reset the neutral safety switch.
