SOURCE: smoke from a side pipe
i think this the what they called the breather.
some cars are equipped with a pipe from the top cylinder head cover down to the side of the engine to blow straight down. some are used to go up against the air cleaner.
if it is blowing smoke and it is probably oily now, it would only indicate that there is already oil exhaust in your top cylinder head cover. could be a leaky valve guide seal.
watch your oil level. it may be consuming oil more than it should. could be a ring job too.

SOURCE: car alarm preventing car from starting
Try removing the alarm system relay, some car alarm has also a fuse on the alarm that you can remove.
Many car alarms unlock by inserting and turning car key while you connect the battery.

Try grounding the engine, they may have moved, removed, or broken the ground straps.
Take a jumper cable from the black(NEG) post to a bolt or clean piece of metal on the the engine.
And see if it starts.
Also check the connection at the starter, in case they had it disconnected during the repair.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Loud humming and clicking noise!
You could try looking at the idler pulleys or the air conditioner these 2 things can cause a noise like that, If you have to take the fan belt off make sure you draw a diagram so you know which way it goes, Sometimes you need to do this so you can spin the pulleys by hand to determin if it is one of them.
