If you take the vehicle to Autozone or one of the other arts stores they will plug in a OBD scanner, get the codes and if they don't have the number chart contact me and I will give it to you.

hi it sounds like a sensor may be faulty or getting worn, luckily you dont need equipment to check codes, look under the dash on drivers side and you will see 2 small black plugs close together plug them in with the car off but key on acc and the check light will flash codes, slow then fast. for example if 4 times slow then 2 times fast it means code 42 then just google it for the code meanings

My check engine light keeps appearing on my dash i have a subaru impreza estate 4wd 1993

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON TO INDICATE THAT A FAULT HAS OCCURRED IN THE ELECTRONIC ENGINE OR EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM, WHEN THIS LIGHT COMES ON A FAULT CODE IS RECORDED IN THE MEEMORY OF THE COMPUTER, YOU NEED TO HAVE THE COMPUTER SCANNED TO FIND OUT WHAT THIS FAULT CODE IS DO PROPER DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, COMMON FAULTS ARE DEFECTIVE O2 SENSORS ON THIS MODEL.

Intermittant engine check light comes on no problem with motor

A check eng lite will very seldom cause any drive-ability concern, you most likely have an intermittent fault like a O2 sensor, have Kragen run a self test for a trouble code, it's fun and it's free!
