My 2002 Mazda Millenia S is not shifting properly. Shifting from 1-2 there is a delay, and then when it drops into gear it clunks......all other gears shift smoothly.. Can this be helped by a tranny oil flush ? It hasn't been flushed in a long time. Also, I recently had my front axle and CV joints replaced....could it be related ?

Dwight, sounds like you are having some trouble with the torque converter. Check the fuild level and maybe even change the fluid and filter. When it does shift does it shift normal or hard?
It could be a sign of bad transmission solenoid. If so, your vehicle has trouble shifting into drive or reverse. Normally, when you start your car, you're able to shift into drive or reverse right away. With a bad transmission solenoid, the vehicle could have a delay of a few seconds, or even take several minutes to warm up and operate properly. During this delay, the vehicle will act similar to how it behaves in neutral. It won't stay in park, and when you press the gas pedal, the vehicle will make an engine revving noise but not move.
Have you checked the trans fluid? Has to be checked with engine running in neutral. If its good you will need to bring it to a transmission shop. Good luckHowie
Go 2 a Ford dealer parts dept. Ask 4 a bottle of: Motorcraft Additive Friction Modifier. STINKS REAL BAD!!!! Usually used in differentials but will lubercate transmission if added into trans fluid tube and vehicle driven shifting thru the gears to get mixture worked into all parts. If this doesn't work you might need tp drop the pan from the tranny & replace the filter and the fluid, if so have pan ready to catch fluid when u break loose 1 side! Jiffy lube can do this & power flush the tranny, if required. Otherwise mechanical problem for tranny repair shop.
Can't solve, but, had the same problem. Replaced everything the codes indicated. Drove a couple of weeks and the transmission went. Third gear is gone.
Almost $ 2000.00 to chase the codes, now the transmission is going to cost $ 2,700.00 to rebuild.
Take car to a trans. shop before the transmission burns up and the rebuild will be less!!!!
Check you tranny fluid make sure its full. Also check if its not leaking into the gears making them to slip while changing gears. Also as the transmission job is done.Make sure the transmission is aligned properly. If you feel a strong **** or clunk while shifting, the car may have a transmission problem. Every gear should shift smoothly and easily without any noises or jerks. If still the same problem then its the transmission problem it has to be replaced. There are many many other users facing the same exact problem in Mazda -6 cars. That mazda is having transmission problems, they had it on the 6 and they now have a new program to upgrade the car software to fix the shifting problem .Ask you car Mazda dealer about the updated program for this transmission shifting problem.Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this

its something called the transmission control unit, first it start with delaying in shifting, then when you shift to revers and push the gas you hear a bang sound and the car battles to revers, it costs around 1500$
