About 6 months ago, I went to start the car and nothing happened. Literally nothing. The radio, lights, fuel pump, etc worked fine but when I turned the key to start, nothing happened. No noises, no clicking, no turnover. I left the car overnight and returned with a friend the next day and when I went to see if it would start it fired up no problem and worked fine for about 6 months. Now, twice in the past month or so it has happened the same way. The only thing that seems to ''fix'' it is time. I've heard theories from a faulty key transponder (although the key that won't work somehow works the next day) to alarm start shutoff.
Don't have solution just the same problem but only when cold . Won't start when clod good thing live is S Alabama but it does get get below 55 often in winter Between Nov. And March

This could be something simple. Your starter draws far more power than anything except for the a/c clutch (not in play here) Since all accessories are functioning, it's likely that the battery terminals are oxidized. A high-draw item will actually break the connection temporarily. This condition will also change with humidity and temperature. Remove them and use a small wire brush or sandpaper to clean the battery posts and the inside of the connectors on the wires themselves. If you have done this and still have a problem, then you should start looking for other larger problems.
Good luck
To karriemac... the other posts hers don't have enough info to even make a guess... your problem is likely in the neutral switch on the trans. It can be taken apart and cleaned, replaced with new (expensive) or used unit.

I have the same problem with the same model year. They reprogrammed the key, replaced the battery, starter and control module. Each time the problem comes back.
Same problem here. 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 25k miles on it. It started up fine 30 min ago. This is my 2nd time with this problem.
I am also currently having this same problem. Just this week I went to start it at the end of the day at work and it wouldn't start. The radio and heat worked, but there was no other indication of the engine even trying to start. I had it towed to the garage and when it got there it started right up! It happened again yesterday, but started up with my spare key on the second try after I messed with the shifter (just tried to move around) and the brake (held down a couple of times).
I originally posted the problem with the Jeep. I needed a starter. Why it would sometimes not start then start later, the starter was going bad. I was stuck outside in a parking lot on the coldest day of the year and had it towed to the shop. The tow truck driver, said watch, now that we shook the car a bit getting it on the flat bed it will work. Sure enough we got the shop and it started. Alot of time people "knock" on the starter on the passenger side underneath to get it started or to see if it faulty. I had it replaced and starts like a champ!
Have `05 - JGC Limited, V8-Hemi.
I would have random start issues here & there, but this always occurred during short trips. In fact, each time I've had the issue, it was in my driveway or within a 2 mi radius of my home. All the instruments were operational... but, each time I turned the key in the ignition, it would just click!
Jump-starts were the remedy at first... but, it grew increasingly more difficult to start with each attempt with the old jumper cables. A novice mechanic went thru his progressions & thought at first it was the battery. But, had the battery tested & it was fine. He later suggested it was the alternator, explaining that with the (high powered engine) the short distance trips were somehow creating a firing issue with the alt.
The 3rd theory was that its the "Starter." Now this appears to be the correct diagnosis. Jump-starts no longer work to start my Jeep. But, each time he located the starter underneath & tapped on it while I turned the key in the ignition... it started!
I purchased a starter on-line in an effort to save $$. Now I just need someone to install.
I keep having the same problem with it randomly not starting. I've been able to move it into neutral each time and start it up from there. I still don't know why it doesn't start here and there. I've had it to both a local garage and the jeep dealership. Both found absolutely nothing wrong. I even told them it started in neutral. Nothing. Thanks for the comments. With this info about starting in neutral, is your guess still the neutral switch? I've already had the transmission replaced after owning only about a month back in 2006.
When I turn the key their is nothing no lights on dash and does not turnover
