2000 volvo s80 electrical failure/ WHILE DRIVING!!

My Volvo while driving without warning will just quit, not stall with a mechanical issue. Total Electrical Power Loss! You hear the relays click in the car, then the speedo and all instruments drop like the car is off. If its night time all headlights everything like you disconnected the battery. It is an intermittent problem, when you try restarting the car still no electrical until you disconnect the battery for a minute or less reconnect and you can restart and drive away like nothing is wrong. The car has had a few gremlins with electrical that were related to the alarm siren that have been since corrected. I still have intermittent problem with my sun roof working when it wants. My cluster information centre doesnt always give me all its information in the center it always has distance to empty and ability to give me messages but not any other data that it use to.Any Ideas?

just to clarify dash is and information center is working fine the last few days. I am presently rechecking all grounds and power leads in the car. does anybody have a voltage stabalizer in there volvo? Just wondering if this might help with maintaining a constant voltage without spikes.

SOURCE: Intermittent Lights, Speedo, and Fan Problems

HI...
On your VOLVO 850.
The Head Lights are Relatinated Directtly with the Ignition switch.
The ignition switch send 12v. Power to the MAIN HEAD LIGHT RELAY and BULB FAILURE WARNIG SENSOR. Incorporated in the Same relay.
Very Important check the Battery terminals, And few ground Below the Battery Holder.
The turn signal switch , has the Funtion to Change the Head lights to LOW or HIGH Beam.
Check for proper funtion.
On left side of the Engine compartment In the Fuse block.
Check the FUSE # 13, 15amp. Replace if need.
The TURN signal work with the Same FUSE # 13. 15 amp.
Related with the Turn Signal switch.
Ok. The blower MOTOR.
Some times work And some times not.
Check the ground wire "BLACK" Below right side of Instrument Panel. If the ground is OK..
Turn the Ignition key to RUN position,
SET the A/C fan to MAX position or HIGH position.
When the Fan is set to High The system make a BY pass At the Blowert motor REsistor. and use a Blower motor Realy to give a High speed.
Using a TEST LIGHT,
Check if There a POWER 12v. at the Green/red Wire.
If you found Power . Check if there a Negative 12v. at the Black WIRE. If you found negative 12v.
Replace the BLOWER MOTOR..
For the Instrument Panel. I recomend Check the FUSE # 3
In the fuse box, Left Rear of the engine compartment.
If the fuse is ok. Check for Power 12v. if you found power
check all the grounds. But if NOT. I recomend Replace the Ignition switch. Because can be the Cause of the Electrical problem in your car.

OK.. I hope this help to try diagnostic your vehicle.
Thank you for use fixya.

SOURCE: My Volvo 960 stalls while driving

It could be a number of things. Fuel Flow problem, or electrical apparatus heats up and works inefficiently. You could start from the cheaper, less strainous solutions, in this order: Change Fuel Filter, and clean Nozzles. Fuel Pump, Air Mass Meter.

The fuel pump which is located in the fuel tank beneath the back seat has gotten bad. Consider replacing it.

Cheers and rate this solution.

What causes this Volvo S80 T6 "Engine System Service Required"

This message could have been brought up for any number of reasons and the fact that they are fully computerised makes them very complicated (eg. Sensor failure elecronic failure, misfiring mechanical failure) without the right tools, you will need a volvo vida code reader (check ebay). Otherwise you will have to go to a volvo repairer to get the car scanned for error codes. Note; a independent volvo workshop is generally cheaper for the same thing.

My volvo s80 will not start and when it does the engine shakes and then it dies out, it says "Reduced Engine Power" what can that be?

Have the timing checked if you can get it runing for a few minutes. If not I would have the computers codes checked if possible. It sounds like a timing problem

Volvo s80 dashboard fault

This is a known problem although Volvo will not admit it. The dash needs to come out (10 min job) and sent away for a simple repair. Total cost is about £150 but you will need to get the SRS warning that will be showing in the LED message display cancelled by a Volvo dealer after the dash has come back. Don't try a scrapyard dashboard the ECUs have IP addresses. I used a company in Kent to do the repair. Get onto Google there may be a repairer more local.

2000 Volvo S80 indicator lights & their funct. not wrking

Your CCM (Climate Control Module) is dead, or asleep. Look in the fuse box at the left end of the dashboard and pull the fuse and see if it resets the CCM. The module may need to be reprogrammed or replaced.

My suggestion is that you take this to a Volvo mechanic, one who has experience with working on these 1999- Volvo models. They have a networked computer system that requires special tools to diagnose and download software into the modules.

Also, it is a good idea to have them perform a total software upgrade, it will address many issues, and may prevent other issues from occurring.
