1998 corvette cranks but does not fire says reduced engine power

VIN ? (USA car?)
what is the problem ("still does the same thing", does WHAT? (wrong or good or both)
did you add wireless remote starter on this car,
did it fail before or after the ADD.
THE real KEY SWITCH FAILS TO CRANK THE ENGINE.
IS THE STARTER MOTORS DEAD AND SILENT?
FIRE to Solenoids?, gets 12vdc power not fire, a voltmeter measures all this if you use one., there is no FIRE there ,it's voltage (power)


surely no 98 car came with factory remote start, (SM says NO)
so there is a story to tell but not told
nor full symptoms told , using a normal key or this wireless secret device./< none told.
worse yet cars with IMMO, the manual tell us flat out, not compatible with remote starts (none-OEM)\

there are no 2 aftermarket (non-OEM) remote start kits the same.

VW is 1999 or earlier and sold in North America, it shouldn't have an immobilizer.
but
If your car has the yellow car/key symbol on the instrument cluster (shown activated below) it has an immobilizer.
as you can see a 1998 car is just blow,1999 start year
some cars made after July 1st,1998 have 1999 opitions.
so nobody guess what is there in your car , factory options

Cabrio and Eurovans have no immobilizer warning light and the immobilizer module is separate from the instrument cluster.
that means no cute carbody+key lamp is there in the cluster.

or TCM errors. and more, remote starts are dangerous.

If the security light is blinking it will not start. The security system needs to be reset. You will have to have a fully charged battery to reset the system. With a full charged battery turn the ignition forward until the warning lights come on and leave the key in the on position for 15min. Turn key off and wait 10sec. then try and start.You may have to perform this procedure a couple of times, however, it is usually successful the first try. The reduced power light can be set by a low voltage/poor charge battery

try to give it a little more gas it sputters an back fires! In the first place your not giving it more gas unless it running ! If just cranking all your doing is letting more air in . Your vehicle has electronic fuel injection , not a carbuerator . Till the computer see's a RPM over 300 rpm , it's going by programming installed in the PCM - engine computer . It sputters an back fires because of a lean condition , low fuel . When starting a fuel injection engine you don't touch the throttle pedal . And if you were to push it to the floor and hold it , the computer goes into clear flood mode. If the vehicle were flooded that is what you would want to do .

You may have O2 sensor problem or a map sensor or coolant temp . sensor . Your best take it an have a qualifiedd repair shop diagnose it .

no 12vdc power to fuse block (which one)?
is dead battery
blown main fuse in engine main box
corrosion on any of those wires, from battery to car and battery to main box. this includes ground.

12 is no distributer pulses that's expected...if no other codes are present check the computer box located under pass side kick panel. Because it is mounted up side down I have seen the controller eeprom that's supposed to be latched in its socket fall out to vibration this sounds like the ecm.....remember you will get spark because that is a separate module in the hei unit hope it helps

It's possible the PCM fuse in the drivers side fuse panel has no power. The power distribution drawings they have are incomplete. Try to put a jumper wire between the radio fuse and the PCM fuse. The instrument cluster will come on and the engine will start.. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could be bad TPS sensor.

If the engine does not reach 300 rpm while cranking..engine will not start.

It needs good battery power to crank these with spare power to run the electronics.

If with good battery if fires and immediately stops, and the little 'yellow car' is illuminated in the cluster.... the immobiliser is active and you need a shop to fix it.

BTW..Stop with the Easy Start fluid already. You'll break a piston ring or worse...such as....the Glow Plugs will cause a back fire and you will likely strip the timing belt...major repairs...like $3500 and up.

PRESS AND RELEASE THE OPTIONS BUTTON ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER DIC TO SCROLL THROUGH OPTIONS UNTIL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER IPC DISPLAY IS BLANK.PRESS AND HOLD THE RESET BUTTONS FOR 3 SECONDS. PRESS THE OPTIONS BUTTON UNTIL FOB TRAINING MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED.PRESS THE RESET BUTTON IN ORDER TO START THE PROGRAMMING MODE.THE MESSAGE HOLD LK +.UNLK 1ST FOB WILL BE DISPLAYED. IF THIS DONT WORK DEALERSHIP FIX.THEY HAVE TO USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO RESET THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM.

You have no idea what kind of damage it got from the front impack, remember its fiberglass not steel, and it could have floded up like an acordand and damaged the crank on the engine if it hit hard enought. Instead of worying about the maintenance record consider what kind of damage it sustained.
