Misfires and loss of power at higher speed. Misfire random on code reader for cylinder 1,2,5,6,7.
Plug/wire replacement potential resolution?
Battery light on continually
Brake Light (Emerg brake) on with brake released.
Recent purchased, ex police car, no other info known.
IF its a police crown vic with about 100K on it replace the crank shaft position sensor. That sensor can multi mis-fire, rough idle and starting and stalling issues. That sensor can baffle the best on this car.Our first time was on a 1996 with about 99K on it.Towed in to the dealer because I could not figure out why it would not start. Took the dealership days to figure it out. Its cheap about $20 and should be replaced in all 100Kmile police vics anyway as we found them to go out normaly about that time under police driving habbits(long idle times) and it can also leave you dead in the water if it fails completely!
Milage on this shouldn't matter, the light being on is probly just stuck, however you maay wanna check to be sure the brakes aint hangin up a little,
Also the surging can be causeed by the fuel pump goin out, may not be the case but something to look for, it will show up as random misfires as well, maybe try a good fuel addative, (could have a little water in it, check the fuel filter as well, alot of cars now days have a charcol filter and when they go bad they can be a issue, Pick up tube could also have a hole in it, the fuel pumpo on theese cars should be in the tank and are not fun to replace,
hope one of theese suggestions helps, there are many thing that can cause the problem your describing
sounds to me like it is either in your fuel or just in need of a tune up, be sure to look for vaccume leaks as well, that is another way to end up with bad miss fire, you can take a little carb cleaner and spray around the intake, (or plenum on fuel injection) and if it idols up you know theres a leak in that spot, usally you can tell just by lisnining, you will hear the air.
for any car you get the best thing you can do is give it a full tune up and fluid change first thing, try this first then go from there

ENGINE MISFIRE
There are few possibilities that can cause engine misfire
issues. It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the
compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression
then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.
Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know
which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.

109k on mileage. Maintenance was completed routinely by shops. Police Department vehicle until 11/2008. Just purchased yesterday am trying to make sure I didn't get overly ripped off.. Only codes on Diag Tool were random misfires on those cylinders.
yeah, I'm an idiot. Brake light was on because pedal was down. I don't feel that there is any tension behind it, perhaps disengaged. On occasion when hard accelerate attemp (stepping on it) it does not give the "push in the back of the seat" acceleration feeling.
