There are a few things effected by heat that could be causing this. Crankshaft position sensor (if your car is equipped since Mercedes started using them sometime around 1991-1992), Fuel pump relay, fuel pump itself, ignition coil (s) and ignition control module (EZL). The only way to narrow down which one it is, is to diagnose the problem WHILE its not starting, so test for fuel and spark during those times and narrow it back from there.
possibly depend what you mean by first time a few turns after glow plugs light turns off should start it straight away people have this habit of turning the car over before the glow plug light goes off do it a few time s to make sure the plugs are warm if its realy strugaling to start its probably the glow plugs there a bit expensive but not pocket braking
when you own a mercedes benz or an amg mercedes, you have to learn and study from books to have an understanding of what you have, what it does and how to care for it. i am on my 7th publication for my vehicle and finally, am reading something that pertains to it directly. if i were you i would start searching for the manuals that are specific for my vehicle. sometimes on ebay, sometimes on the pelican, sometimes on benzworld i have seen folks buying selling and trading them. you can also request them for interlibrary loan at the public library, benz bible, haynes... but star tec info on the computer can lead to the most accurate and specific info
Put old parts back in to isolate problem. If the problem still exists, the problem is not related to your work. If the car works with old parts, replace 1 part at a time until the faulty one is discovered. It is possible all the parts are fine, just not installed properly. Check your work and be sure parts are installed correctly.
I had the same problem of loss of power with my Rexton E320, especially at low speed , I changed the plugs but the problem could not go away, until I changed the fuel filter and that problem is gone. I have made a lot of kms now without any such problem, try that, it might work.
first switch on wiper and let it run when the clicking sound comes is the wiper stop and start again? keep your eyes on it if it's happen faulty front SAM control unit, replace front SAM by dealer workshop it's cant replace without Mercedes diagnose CPU and only can do by experience technician, is this information helped you?
I would start by changing the fuel filter then check to see if there is any water in the fuel if those are ok see if a critter built a nest in the air filtter or the exhaust.
