If you dont have the keypad to shut the alarm off, or put the key in the door first and unlock the car, then you are going to have to get the alarm disconnected

    I tried the steps - locking the car and then using the key to unlock the driver door. This did not work. The alarm still blares and car wont start until the battery is disconnected

the sliding door is probablly draining the battery,, have door checked.. make sure tracks are clean and hinges are not binding

Horn on my sienna goes off while replacing the battery
Hook up cables and lock all doors,first try unlocking drivers door with key. If that does not workstart over and then try unlocking trunk/hatch with key. This usually will work, I highly sugest you use original key if possible.

Hello. If you have a FACTORY alarm system, the deactivte prodedure is to cycle the key off-on (not to start) 5 times, in the ignition. This feature is provided in case you lose the remote, or the remote battery goes dead.

Note: this will only work with the Factory system. If you have an aftermarket system, this answer will no benefit you.
