No heat comes out of th events.
If heater core is plugged up with rust particles - typical with this car - do a separate heater core flush.
The Next year, I had low heat / not enough heat again. Isolate heater core only, did flush again myself, seemed clean, then, poured through mix of 1/3 CLR (Calcium Lime Rust remover product) and hot water for 15 min max (needed only about 2 litres/quarts of solution), then flush out w/clean water, then re-fill/pour in 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water. Had FULL heat again. Good. Needed full heat for defrosting/deicing in winter.
I think the isolated heater core FLUSH / 15 min CLR solution / FLUSH / refill 50/50 is going to have to be an annual event each FALL Autumn for me.
Heat control valvue could be stuck closed not allowing water to pass through the heater core
SOURCE: AC can't be charged in 2001 Ford Taurus
did u evacuate the air from the system with an ac vacuum pump? did u jumper the low pressure cycling switch (in low pressure line near rear of engine comapartment) to make the compressor run?
SOURCE: Ford Taurus Heater won't switch over to AC
I guess first thing to find out is why compressor is not coming on, as without that running you won't get any cool air. May just need a recharge, but I would have that checked out first. If system is low on freon, it won't engage, and if it is low, why, as in where is leak & how much to fix it, would be my first concern.

Start the engine when cool, remove rad cap and start engine and let it run with the heater on. (not defrost) Top up coolant as needed in rad, and let it run until either the rad fan comes on and off 2 or 3 times, or you can see increased flow in rad from thermostat opening. It will obviously happen after it reaches operating temperature, so watch after gauge gets close to there. Wait until you see that flow 2 or 3 times or fan comes on and off before you put cap on, and fill return bottle to proper level as well. That should cure it, by getting air out of system, and coolant flowing through heater core.
SOURCE: I have a 2001 Taurus and the heater isn't working,
heater core is more than likely clogged. most shops will flush out the entire system...which is what i recommend....for under 50 bucks.

change thermostat and only put straight up anti freeze
